Position Specific Description
The PGD Engineer – RSO functions as the principal technical resource, operational subject matter expert, and coordination lead for the Renewable Substation Operations team. This role requires a strong foundation in substation operations and protection systems, with responsibility for ensuring the RSO team maintains operational readiness, technical proficiency, and continuous improvement across all facets of renewable substation monitoring and control.
Core Responsibilities
- Technical Mentorship:
Serve as the primary technical mentor for RSO operators, providing guidance on substation operations, protection schemes, and system monitoring best practices. - Operational Oversight & Quality Assurance:
Monitor alarm management practices to ensure timely, accurate operator response in accordance with established procedures and reliability standards. - Engineering Analysis & Process Improvement:
Review, analyze, and trend operational trips and abnormal events to identify root causes and drive improvements in operator performance, operational processes, and tooling effectiveness. - Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Represent the RSO team in recurring operational, engineering, and leadership meetings, serving as the team's technical liaison across organizational functions.
Additional Qualifications
Substation operations or engineering experience strongly preferred, including familiarity with protection and control systems, switching operations, and substation commissioning or maintenance practices. Experience with SCADA platforms, alarm management systems, and digital fault recording equipment. Knowledge of NERC reliability standards applicable to Generator Owners and Generator Operators. Strong analytical, communication, and cross-functional coordination skills.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's - Engineering from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
