Position: Ophthalmic Technician 2 (H) - Full Time

Ophthalmic Technician 2 (H) - Full Time - Palm Beach Gardens, Florida

University of Miami – Bascom Palmer Eye Institute is seeking an Ophthalmic Technician 2 (OT2) to provide comprehensive eye care in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

Job Functions
  • Performs and documents clinical items in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Reason for visit, tangent screen visual fields, chief complaint, basic ocular motility, history of present illness.
  • Pupillary evaluation, basic review of systems, ocular surface assessment, review systemic and ocular medications.
  • Eye drop administration, record allergies, intraocular pressure (Goldman, Tono‑Pen, I‑Care).
  • Pharmacy information, pachymetry, family, social, medical, and ocular history.
  • Insertion and removal of hard & soft contact lenses, visual acuity at distance and near, color vision test.
  • Lensometry, stereopsis test, manual refraction, sensorimotor exam, confrontational fields.
  • Automated & manual perimetry, Humphrey visual fields, Virtual Reality (VR) visual fields, Amsler Grid visual fields.
  • Provides support to providers, patient‑centric care, adherence to policies, patient confidentiality, best practices of patient safety, hand hygiene, infection control.
  • Attends educational courses, demonstrates high quality of work, meets daily productivity goals, maintains JCAHPO certifications.
  • Ensures all equipment is calibrated, participates in clinical research, organizes and stocks rooms.
  • Travels to satellite eye centers, works evenings and weekends as needed, performs organizational duties, completes IVI prep, facilitates motility exams.
  • Supports Virtual Care encounters and exams, performs imaging (fundus photos, OCTs, slit lamp exams), assists with training, onboarding clinical support staff.
  • Acts as a super‑user for technology implementations, optimizations, training initiatives, preceptor and trainer for team members, serves as a lead technician providing oversight to clinical teams when assigned.
Qualifications Education

High School diploma or equivalent.

Required Certification and Licensing

Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA).

Experience

2 years of relevant experience.

  • Demonstrates competency in all ophthalmic subspecialty patient workups.
  • Prepares patients for intravitreal injections.
  • Ability to function as an ophthalmic scribe.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
