Summary/Objectives
The Universal Banker serves as a full‑service, single point of contact in the branch for South State customers’ financial needs. The position operates in the dual capacity of a Teller and FSR providing exceptional customer service in both transactional and account management. The Universal Banker seeks to attract, expand, and retain customer relationships and is responsible for contributing to the financial growth of the bank.

- Serves customers quickly, accurately, efficiently, and confidentially according to the South State Bank Service Standards.
- Knows and understands the products and services offered by the Bank, including facts, features, benefits, rules, pricing, and definitions.
- Identifies customer needs and expectations, seeking opportunities to expand relationships through referrals as outlined in the position goals.
- Presents a neat and professional appearance in accordance with bank policy.
- Ensures compliance with all banking regulations, including Regulation CC and the Bank Secrecy Act.
- Develops a strong understanding of customer‑facing technology and can discuss enrollment in self‑service options.
- Processes transactions for savings, checking, and loan accounts.
- Maintains a neat and orderly work area.
- Assists in guiding and training new tellers.
- Provides customer access to safe deposit boxes.
- Cashes checks and processes savings withdrawals within assigned limits and prescribed procedures.
- Sells certified checks.
- Balances transactions daily.
- Services/balances ATM transactions.
- Utilizes the branch capture system.
- Follows policies and procedures to minimize operational errors and maintain workflow.
- Adheres to the branch’s security and audit procedures.
- Opens new deposit accounts and manages related services such as stop payments, wire transfers, and maintenance functions within assigned limits.
- Explains policies and procedures to customers, noting common unfamiliarities.
- Resolves customer problems and complaints with courtesy and discretion, directing difficult issues to appropriate sources.
- Recognizes opportunities to satisfy customers and promote additional services.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the bank’s financial services.
- Shows appreciation for customer time and business; provides business card if not already given.
- Applies branch security and audit procedures.
- Ensures accurate, timely, and properly distributed records, reports, and correspondence from customer development efforts.
- One year of teller or cash handling experience and six months of customer relationship building or sales experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in Teller II and basic FSR job functions.
- Additional responsibilities may include Vault or Backup Vault duties.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Education:
High School diploma or equivalent. - Experience:
Cash handling, sales, customer service. Previous banking experience preferred. - Specific Knowledge:
Good interpersonal and computer skills; ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.

- All assigned Regulatory Compliance Training.
- Acknowledgement of all policies through Docu Sign as assigned.
- Additional training may be required depending on experience.
- Must lift up to 50 pounds and stand or sit for long periods of time; must access and interpret information on computer screens, documents, and cash denominations, and identify customers.
This position is most likely in an open lobby area with an individual workstation. The location is inside a cooled and heated facility.
TRAVELTravel may be required to attend meetings or training as needed.
