Responsibilities- Perform complex and technical clerical library duties related to the circulation of library reserve and interlibrary loan materials.
- Provide basic reference service and assist patrons in locating information in print, microform, and electronic formats.
- Assist staff and patrons with research and reference queries.
- Process books, periodicals, and other library materials, including checking in, shelving, and maintaining inventory.
- Maintain and troubleshoot library equipment such as electronic catalogs, photocopiers, and microfilm readers.
- Operate computers for interlibrary loan requests, database access, and catalog updates using DRA and OCLC systems.
- Prepare and maintain reports, records, and statistical information on library transactions.
- Assist in collecting and reconciling fines and fees and in processing monetary transactions.
- Open and close library facilities and manage security systems.
- Assist in training, scheduling, and supervising student assistants.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Graduation from high school and at least two years of increasingly responsible library experience.
Knowledge and Abilities- Knowledge of basic library methods, procedures, and reference sources.
- Understanding of the Library of Congress Classification system.
- Computer proficiency, including database searching and general office software.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and to work cooperatively with diverse populations.
- Physical ability to reach overhead, lift moderately heavy objects, and perform manual tasks related to book processing.
- Classified Bargaining Unit Position.
- Salary placement is contingent on education, experience, and department budget.
- Retirement System:
CalPERS (upon meeting eligibility criteria).
Library environment with constant interruptions.
Schedule & Location- Regular library hours:
Monday‑Thursday 9:00 AM‑6:00 PM;
Friday 9:00 AM‑5:00 PM. - Substitute schedule may vary based on operational needs.
- Primary location:
Palm Desert Campus.
