Basic Function

Under administrative leadership, the adjunct instructor participates in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs, courses, and other experiences that promote student growth and support the district’s vision, mission, and values.

Representative Duties
  • Classroom Responsibilities
    • Meet assigned class/lab times.
    • Develop and implement instruction consistent with the official course outline.
    • Distribute a written syllabus that communicates course objectives, grading criteria, and policies.
    • Respect student rights according to district policy and applicable laws.
    • Ensure textbooks and instructional materials are available in a timely manner.
    • Refer students to tutoring and related services when appropriate.
    • Supervise students in off‑campus activities if part of the instructor’s load.
  • Student Evaluation
    • Assess students’ progress toward course objectives and advise them of evaluation methods and results.
    • Return assignments and exam results promptly.
    • Assign grades in accordance with district policy, Ed Code, and Title V regulations.
    • Submit grade report forms, census, progress reports, attendance, and proctoring forms accurately and timely.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Abide by department regulations concerning proper use, care, and security of equipment.
  • Advise supervisor of unsafe conditions or potential hazards and recommend solutions.
  • Fulfill obligations outlined in the current Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Maintain official records required by district policy and submit them per college procedures.
Optional Duties
  • Advise students on learning skills or enrichment opportunities.
  • Provide academic assistance during office hours.
  • Participate in credit‑by‑examination programs where applicable.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and review as needed.
  • Support the development of alternative teaching modalities.
  • Schedule, announce, and maintain office hours.
  • Attend advisory committee meetings as required.
  • Engage in professional development activities.
  • Participate in department and district meetings when assigned.
  • Assist in mentoring new faculty and participate in recruitment activities.
Minimum Qualifications
  • For selected disciplines, a bachelor’s degree or higher with two years of professional experience (or an associate degree with six years) is required; if a master’s degree is held, professional experience is required.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community‑college students.
Employment Status

Part‑time adjunct instructor (pool). The primary teaching modality is in‑person, with teaching sessions possible at the Palm Desert Campus or other district sites. Classes may be scheduled during the day, evening, or weekends.

Salary Placement

Salary placement follows the CODAA Collective Bargaining Agreement and Adjunct Salary Schedule.
