The City of Palm Desert is seeking a Business Enterprise Systems Administrator to help drive smart, innovative solutions that power our operations and public services. This professional-level role blends systems expertise with project management savvy—independently analyzing needs, leading initiatives, and coordinating across teams and trusted vendors. You’ll organize and manage multiple City systems, build clear project plans, identify critical paths, and break big ideas into actionable tasks that deliver results for the community.

Under direction, performs professional and technical work in the development, programming, testing, implementation, maintenance, and modification of City enterprise software applications across multiple platforms and technologies; identifies end user requirements, evaluates system and infrastructure capabilities, and recommends upgrades, enhancements, and/or new application solutions; troubleshoots application problems; provides technical support and training to application and system end users; and performs related duties as assigned.
SUPERVISIONRECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives supervision from the Information Systems Manager. Does not directly or indirectly supervise other professional staff but may coordinate the work of contractors and/or may provide functional direction and training to technical or less experienced employees.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICSThis is a journey-level professional classification. Incumbents are primarily responsible for providing specialized professional support in enterprise software application(s) but may also assist with general help desk and system support in other technology areas as needed. Incumbents use independent judgment and decision-making authority to resolve complex problems. Assignments are given within general guidelines and incumbents are responsible for establishing objectives, timelines, and methods to deliver work products or services.
Work is typically reviewed upon completion for technical soundness, appropriateness, and conformity to policy and requirements. This classification is distinguished from Information Systems Manager in that the latter has management and supervisory authority in planning, organizing, and directing the full scope of information technology operations for the City.
- Performs professional and technical work in the development, programming, testing, implementation, maintenance, and modification of City enterprise software applications across multiple platforms and technologies.
- Coordinates and/or conducts application design, development, evaluation, and testing projects; consults with City staff, management, and outside agencies to analyze City-wide and department business requirements, identify new or enhanced automation opportunities, and develop project scope, description, and implementation plans that resolve problems and/or improve efficiency; identifies, recommends, arranges, and works with consultant staff as needed for application development project work.
