Position SummaryThe Lead Lighting Technician is responsible for overseeing all lighting operations at the Plaza Theatre, including programming, operation, and maintenance of lighting systems for live performances and events. This position reports to the Technical Director and plays a key role in creating dynamic and visually stunning experiences for audiences. Ideal candidates are highly skilled in using the Grand
MA3 lighting console and familiar with modern lighting technologies. This role will pay an hourly rate of $28.00 – $32.00

About the VenueThe Historic Palm Springs Plaza Theatre located in the heart of Downtown Palm Springs, California, re-opened on December 1, 2025 after a $34 million dollar restoration. The theatre hosts 120+ events per year including hosting the Palm Springs International Film Festival, Palm Springs Symphony, Palm Springs Gay Men’s Chorus, Modern Men:
Coachella Valley Men’s Chorus, Palm Springs Pops Orchestra, Modernism Week, Palm Springs Jazz Festival and many national touring acts. The theatre capacity is 700 seats.
- Program and operate lighting systems for live performances and events.
- Ensure proper setup, focusing, and maintenance of all lighting equipment.
- Collaborate with directors and designers to achieve creative lighting designs.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues quickly during shows.
- Maintain lighting inventory and schedule regular maintenance.
- Train and supervise lighting support staff as needed.
- Proven experience in theatrical lighting design and operation.
- Expertise with Grand
MA3 lighting console. - Strong technical troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
- Preferred:
Experience in live theatre or performing arts venues. - Preferred:
Familiarity with DMX networking and intelligent lighting fixtures.
