GENERAL DUTIES: The nursing assistant provides patient care under the direct supervision of a registered nurse. Access to all Patient Health Information for treatment purposes only.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain Nursing Assistant Certification
  • Provide nursing care for all Med Surg patients.
  • Provide skin care and hourly rounding to all patients.
  • Proficient with braces and specialized equipment used by our patients
  • Obtain and interpret information in terms of the patient’s needs
  • Understand growth and development and the range of treatment needed by patients, appropriate to their ages
  • Be aware of each patient’s individualized plan of care including goals and interventions
  • Provide information to the charge nurse to assist in the development and revision of the plan of care
  • Carry out teaching activities identified in the treatment plan under the supervision of the Registered Nurse
  • Orient patients to the unit
  • Report unsafe conditions to appropriate personnel
  • Utilize universal precautions
  • Report potential crisis situations to the nurse in charge
  • Make patient rounds and respond to call lights in a timely manner
  • Attend shift reports and assume responsibility for assigned groups of patients
  • Participate in designated P.I. activities
  • Demonstrate guest relations through communication, cooperation, and courteous assistance to patients, physicians, co‑workers, and visitors
  • Act as the patient’s advocate and ensure that patient rights are upheld
  • Organize and provide care to assigned patients in accordance with the plan of care
  • Identify and address patient safety risk issues
  • Prioritize care based on patient needs and scheduled activities
  • Obtain height, weight, and vital signs on admission and document these appropriately
  • Take and record vital signs and patient weights according to physician orders or unit protocol
  • Observe and document changes in patients’ appearance or behavior and report them to the Registered Nurse
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Education – entry level, vocational training, specialized skills and certification
  • Current California Nursing Assistant Certification
  • Current American Heart Association BLS
  • Non‑violent crisis de‑escalation training (CPI) within ninety days of hire
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to work with staff, patients and families
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment
