Position Description
Assist in special education programs, including preparing teaching materials, supervising students, and meeting the special education needs of students.
Duties- Experience:
Some instructional assistant experience is desirable. - Education/Training:
Formal or informal education or training ensuring the ability to read and write at a level necessary for job performance. - Academic Proficiency:
Applicants must meet proficiency in one of the following: completed 48 or more college units; received an AA degree or higher; or successfully completed the academic proficiency exam (reading, language arts, math). - Licenses/Certifications:
Possession of or ability to obtain a current American Red Cross First Aid Certificate (desirable); possession of or ability to obtain a current CPR Certificate (desirable).
Foreign equivalency certification is required for individuals whose high school or college coursework was completed outside the United States.
Work SchedulePart‑time, 5.75 hours per day, following the student calendar. Additional hours may be available based on seniority and position availability.
SalaryInitial salary at the first step of the applicable salary schedule. Probationary period is 130 work days. After becoming permanent, a one‑step advance is granted, with annual increases up to the fifth step of the salary schedule.
BenefitsSeventeen paid holidays; sick leave proportionate to hours worked; vacation earned at the prescribed rate, vesting after completion of the probationary period.
Working ConditionsIndoor/outdoor environment with temperature swings. Possible exposure to blood borne pathogens, noise from classrooms and office equipment, and other classroom and outdoor environments.
Physical Demands20‑lb. lifting/carrying requirement; some sitting, walking, standing, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and reaching are required.
