You will be the Aeronautical Engineer (Wind Tunnel Operations) – Level 4 for the Low‑speed 2 Wind Tunnel (L2WT) Operations Team, responsible for advancing aerodynamic testing capabilities.
What You Will Be DoingAs the Aeronautical Engineer (Wind Tunnel Operations) you will lead a critical wind‑tunnel operations team and deliver high‑impact test results for multiple programs.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Developing affordable, low‑risk testing approaches that meet customer objectives.
- Integrating and calibrating instrumentation, actuation devices, and electronics for data acquisition.
- Designing rapid‑prototype wind‑tunnel models and support hardware using existing digital‑twin CATIA models.
- Overseeing fabrication and assembly of support‑system components and model parts.
- Operating the wind tunnel and executing test plans in accordance with customer requirements.

You are a collaborative technical leader with deep aerodynamic testing expertise and a proven track record of driving team productivity. You thrive in fast‑paced environments, mentor teammates, and continuously improve testing processes, data‑acquisition systems, and software tools.
Basic Qualifications- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in aerospace engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical/Computer Engineering preferred; or equivalent experience/combined education considered.
- Direct experience working in a wind tunnel technical testing environment or hands‑on aerodynamics laboratory.
- Experience in design with 3‑D solid modeling CAD systems.
- Technical team leadership experience.
- Effective customer engagement.
- Project engineering experience, including schedule and budget analysis.
- Strong organizational, communication, team collaboration, and leadership skills.
- Experience with instrumentation, computers, electronics, and computer programming.
- Knowledge of Data Acquisition Systems, especially strain gages, pressure transducers, and temperature probes.
- Competency in software codes (Excel, Visual Basic, Lab Windows/CVI, LabVIEW, C, C++, Fortran).
- Hands‑on hardware and wiring in a lab environment.
- Ability to develop and effectively communicate clear technical presentations for customers and suppliers.
- Microsoft Office skills:
Excel, PowerPoint, Word. - Basic knowledge of Fluid Mechanics and Aerodynamics.
This position requires a U.S. citizen with an active Secret clearance. Top Secret clearance level is required.
CompensationAnnual base salary range in California, Massachusetts, and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington, and Washington DC: $104,500 – $184,115. Salary may vary based on location.
