Manufacturing Engineer
As a Staff Manufacturing Engineer at Lockheed Martin, you will be responsible for developing and optimizing manufacturing processes and procedures to drive operational excellence. You will leverage your expertise in materials, tooling, and process flow to define build sequences and ensure product quality, efficiency, and manufacturability.
Key Responsibilities- Develop, implement, and refine manufacturing processes and build sequences based on a strong understanding of materials and fabrication techniques.
- Evaluate equipment and tool performance to verify efficiency, reliability, and alignment with production requirements.
- Identify and resolve issues related to tooling, process capability, and production inefficiencies through root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
- Collaborate with design engineering teams to provide feedback on design concepts and specifications, ensuring manufacturability and optimal use of available equipment and methods.
- Operate within a Model-Based Engineering environment using platforms such as 3DX (3
DEXPERIENCE) and iBASEt Solumina to develop digital work instructions and manage process documentation. - Support cross-functional initiatives to improve cycle time, cost, quality, and safety across manufacturing operations.
- Provide periodic off‑shift support as needed to sustain production and ensure continuity of operations.
- Travel periodically to other sites or vendors for technical support and integration activities.
- Technical Aptitude:
Proven ability to rapidly understand new technologies, systems, and integration challenges. - Hands‑On Expertise:
Comfortable with hardware evaluation, troubleshooting, and subsystem‑level integration tasks. - Initiative & Independence:
Self‑starter with the ability to manage tasks without close supervision and drive projects to completion. - Strategic Thinking:
Makes informed, data‑driven decisions with long‑term project and program goals in mind. - Attention to Detail:
Maintains precision in documentation, process development, and execution. - Collaboration:
Works effectively within cross‑functional teams and with external partners/suppliers.
- Experience with sub‑system assembly and integration into first‑article complete air vehicles.
- Background in aerospace hardware development, integration, and manufacturing environments.
- Engineering Bachelor’s Degree
- Hardware fabrication, assembly and/or integration/installation support
- Manufacturing‑assembly work‑instruction authoring
- Hands‑on production‑floor support
- Ability to obtain Secret clearance within 8 months of submission and gain special‑program access within 3 months of submission
- 10+ years of experience with development/prototype/first‑article aircraft program support
- Hypersonic or high‑temperature thermal‑protection systems and hardware
- CNC‑machining working knowledge
- 3DX/CATIA V5 software usage
- Direct ownership and support of specific manufacturing operations, as well as interfacing with production employees
- Review of engineering technical drawings and models/designs with respect to Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) considerations
- Active Secret Clearance
This position requires a government security clearance, you must be a US Citizen for consideration. Clearance Level: Secret.

Pay Rate:
The annual base salary range for this position in California, Massachusetts, and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington or Washington DC is $99,700 - $175,835.
