Telecommunications Engineering Technician

Job Summary

Telecommunications Engineering Technician – The National Airspace Systems Integration Support (NISC) program at Leidos provides support to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Central Service Area – Engineering Services Group across the United States. This position is located in Palmdale, CA and supports the daily operations of the FAA program, which designs, builds, operates, and maintains the FAA’s next‑generation communications platform and enterprise network.

• Review FAA databases and provide input and/or draft Site Survey Reports (SSR).
• Conduct site surveys to provide input and/or draft Site Survey Reports.
• Coordinate schedules with SSC, ES, and Verizon personnel.
• Draft Project Risk Plans (PRP) and Operational Risk Management Plans (ORMP).
• Generate and/or update drawings, sketches, and artifacts.
• Draft project plans for site preparation activities.
• Coordinate scheduled outages with SSC, Air Traffic and Operations personnel.
• Develop transition plans.
• Resolve schedule conflicts.
• Accompany unbadged personnel at facilities.
• Work with LECs on schedules.
• Develop briefings, information, and reports on District status.
• Work with other Districts/SSC on interstate service flows, transitions, cutovers, and planning.
• Support District POC and SSCs with day‑to‑day work activities.
• Review and provide comments on Verizon Site Specific Implementation Plans (SSIP).

• Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering and 2+ years of relevant experience OR a Master’s degree. Additional experience may be substituted or considered in lieu of a degree.
• Ability to travel 75% of the time.
• Ability to obtain a Public Trust Security Clearance. Suitability: eligibility requires U.S. citizenship or U.S. permanent residency with residency in the U.S.A for the past 3 years.
• Proficiency in MS Office Suites.

• 2+ years of experience working with Telco systems performing network troubleshooting.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD or similar drafting tools.
• Knowledge of National Electric Code (NEC), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards, and National Airspace System Equipment Tower.
• Knowledge of OSHA and general construction and electrical safety standards.
• Knowledge of NAS facilities such as ASR, ATCT, VOR, ARSR, RCAG.
