Milling Machine Machinist 2
DPP is seeking a Milling Machine Machinist 2 for an opportunity with our client in the Aerospace & Defense Manufacturing industry.
Work location:
Onsite in Palmdale, CA
Work schedule:
4x10, Monday – Thursday Duration: 12 months Term: W2 position Work authorization: US Citizen
Position summary:
The Milling Machine Machinist 2 supports the PMC department by:
- Setting up and operating manual or universal, horizontal, or vertical milling machines to perform machining operations such as compound angles and contours, boring compound angular holes, doing helical and spiral milling; serrating; and gear, spline, and keyway cutting to exacting tolerances.
- Selecting, mounting, and aligning various specialized machine attachments and standard or improvised tooling, planning sequence of operations, number of cuts required, and method of setup, determining, setting, and adjusting speeds, feeds, and depth of cut.
- Interpreting blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications.
- Using a variety of machinist hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
- Making standard shop computations. Measuring, marking, and scribing dimensions and reference points to lay out stock for machining.
- May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.
- Requires completion of a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience.
- Fabrication of parts, assemblies, installations, and repair of production metal products using HAAS 3 and 5 axis mill machines
- Operate under restrictive policies regarding FOE (Foreign Object Debris), clean as you go, and housekeeping.
- Adhere to safety policies not limited to safety glasses. Proper PPE (personal protective equipment), and hazardous waste requirements
Responsibilities:
- Setting up and operating plain or universal, horizontal, or vertical milling machines to perform machining operations such as compound angles and contours; boring compound angular holes; doing helical and spiral milling; serrating; and gear, spline, and keyway cutting to exacting tolerances.
- Selecting, mounting, and aligning various specialized machine attachments and standard or improvised tooling; planning sequence of operations, number of cuts required, and method of setup; determining, setting, and adjusting speeds, feeds, and depth of cut; interpreting blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications; using a variety of machinist hand tools and precision measuring instruments; making standard shop computations; and measuring, marking, and scribing dimensions and reference points to lay out stock for machining.
- May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.
Basic qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent and 2 years related machining experience in an aerospace, military, or manufacturing environment.
- Experience in programming and operating a 3 axis and/or 5 axis CNC machine (with simultaneous movements)
- Experience in Mastercam or related Cam software
- Experience in GD&T in design and manufacturing process
- Ability to design and create customized fixtures and tooling for jobs
- This position requires the ability to perform moderate strenuous physical and repetitious work to include: bending, stooping, kneeling, carrying tools, lifting up to 35 pounds, working overhead or at heights, and accessing small, confined spaces
- Ability to pass a new hire Physical.
- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret level clearance and Special Program Access within a reasonable period, as defined by the company to meet its business needs. U.S. Citizenship required for clearance.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience in programming and operating a 3 axis and/or 5 axis CNC machine (with simultaneous movements)
- Experience in Mastercam or related Cam software
- Experience in GD&T in design and manufacturing process
- Ability to design and create customized fixtures and tooling for jobs
- Experience working in an Aviation Rapid Prototype and/or Experimental Fabrication Environment
- Experience using NX or CAD modeling programs
- Experience working from Composites, Al, Ti, and Inconel
- Active U.S. Government Secret level clearance last investigated within 5 1/2 years.
- Experience with Aerospace Parts
- Experience in a team environment
- Innovative and self-motivated
- Knowledge of ERP/SAP
- Experience with utilizing Siemens NX/CATIA CAD tools or applicable 3D CAD systems
