VOALA provides a variety of social services to Los‑Angeles area communities such as Head Start programs, Upward Bound college prep programs, veterans’ services, homeless shelters, low‑income housing program and drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

The Monitor is an entry‑level position that provides security of the program premises and safety for program clients, visitors, and employees. Driving ability preferred.
Duties and Responsibilities- Shelter Security
- Entrance Monitoring – authorize entrance and departure of employees, participants, visitors, guests, and other persons, guarding against theft and maintaining premises security.
- Bag & Person Screening – search all participants and personal belongings at the front door each time a participant enters, treating each participant with equal dignity and professionalism.
- Patrol Premises – walk the facility to prevent and detect intrusion, ensuring security of doors, windows, gates, etc., and report as needed.
- Shelter Safety
- Observe the shelter during patrols to ensure safe operations; report and correct spills, unsafe conditions, or defective equipment.
- Know the location of fire exits and be prepared to assist participants in case of emergency.
- Monitor clients and conduct room checks; maintain records of client compliance with program rules to report to clinical/case‑management staff, and assist them as required.
- Call police or fire department in emergencies such as fire or presence of unauthorized persons.
- Asset Protection
- Protect the agency’s limited resources from theft or loss; report suspicious events to the supervisor.
- Complete written reports and incident logs of daily activities and irregularities, including unusual occurrences, property damage, theft, and unauthorized persons.
- Act as a role model for participants at all times – put clients’ and participants’ needs first.
- Client / Participant Support
- Answer telephones and take messages for clients and staff; greet visitors.
- Maintain office housekeeping; ensure common areas, laundry areas, and restrooms are clean, disinfected, and fully operational.
- Assist shelter staff during provision of services to clients, such as meal preparation/serving, monitoring and recording self‑administration of prescribed medication, setting up for classes, meetings, recreation, and other program events.
- Driving Tasks (for licensed Monitors)
- Transport participants to and from various locations, including human service locations, work sites, and medical facilities.
- Assist passengers in securing wheelchairs, car seats, and other mobility devices.
- Ensure passenger safety and operate the vehicle safely at all times.
- Maintain trip records, mileage, and gasoline usage records.
- Maintain the program vehicle in good operating condition; clean vehicle and equipment after each pick‑up and delivery, and tow vehicle for routine maintenance and repairs.
- Provide services on‑site; report to work on‑site each day of active employment.
- Monitor shelter entrance, screen bags and persons, and patrol premises as scheduled.
- Observe and report safety concerns and maintain client compliance records.
- Complete written reports and incident logs of daily activities and irregularities.
- Drive participants when licensed, and perform other duties as required.
- Act as a role model for participants at all times.
As service providers to the under‑privileged and vulnerable in our community, all employees are mandated reporters and must report any instance of physical or sexual abuse to the proper authorities.
Qualifications Requirements- Pass fingerprint clearance, background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment, and education verifications.
