Job Overview
MAINTENANCE ELECTRICIAN (Code 6493) – The position requires repair, installation, and maintenance of plant electrical systems and equipment.
Responsibilities- Determines routing, location, and method of installing wiring systems, conduits, electrical equipment, fixtures, and accessories.
- Computes wire gauge, power, and load limit requirements.
- Installs and maintains large motors, transformer banks, welding generators, panels, electrical control systems, and switchboards.
- Performs repair and installation on energized electrical circuits.
- Maintains electrical systems and accessories on plant machines and equipment.
- Inspects and determines necessary maintenance, repair, and replacement for overhead crane and hoist equipment.
- Disassembles, repairs, and reassembles motors, generators, exciters, and converters; diagnoses trouble and determines repair methods.
- Replaces parts and units as necessary and tests for conformance to specifications.
- Performs mechanical operations necessary for dismantling, disassembly, repair, and installation of electrical units.
Materials worked on: electric motors, generators, transformers, switchboard, magnetic starters, relays, control systems and other electrical equipment.
Materials used: wire, tape, solder, conduit, insulators, fuses, breakers, switches, relays, screws, bolts, lubricants, insulating varnish, lighting fixtures, and other electrical repair and replacement parts and supplies.
Tools: electricians’ hand tools, soldering irons, wire strippers, wire pullers, hickeys; wire gauges, ammeters, voltmeters, watt meters, ohmmeters, meg ohmmeters.
Equipment: power tools such as drill presses, hack saws, pipe benders, threaders; block and tackle, power winches, scaffolding, ladders, safety belts, aerial platforms, mobile scaffolding.
Knowledge and Ability- Proficient with electricians’ hand tools and electrical testing and measuring instruments.
- Uses electrical shop power tools, equipment and accessories.
- Uses electrical handbooks and charts.
- Has complete knowledge of electrical maintenance and shop theory, procedures, codes and ordinances.
- Can read and interpret complex wiring and circuit diagrams and installation blueprints.
- Applies mathematics involving algebra.
- Works at various heights.
- Minimum three years of experience working in an electrical and industrial environment.
- Experience with troubleshooting, maintaining, servicing, and repairing electrical systems and infrastructure.
- Must possess and maintain required licenses and certifications when required.
- State Electrical Journeyman License.
- Ability to work off elevated platforms.
- Extensive machine tool and electrical control knowledge.
- Comprehensive knowledge of electrical repair and troubleshooting.
This position requires a government security clearance. Must be a US Citizen. Clearance Level: Secret.
