Location:

Fort Worth, TX, or Palmdale, CA.

Compensation: $120,000 - $160,000 + Bonus Eligible.

Description

Thompson Software Solutions is seeking a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to support the development of advanced software systems for a military aircraft platform. This role provides an opportunity to contribute directly to mission‑critical avionics and embedded capabilities that enable the performance, safety, and effectiveness of next‑generation military aviation systems.

The position requires a software engineer who applies a wide range of technical principles, theories, and concepts to develop, integrate, and test software products. The successful candidate will be a member of a high‑performing multi‑site team, working independently on projects as well as collaboratively with other software engineers and program development and deployment teams.

Selected applicants will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Continued eligibility for classified information is required throughout employment, as dictated by program needs.

Basic Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
  • 5+ years of embedded software development experience
  • Experience developing C++ for safety‑critical avionics systems
  • Knowledge of Real‑Time Operating Systems (MOSA.ic, VxWorks, Integrity)
  • Embedded application development in Linux (Yocto/RHEL), Windows, and Bare‑Metal environments
  • Flight software development experience
  • Software integration and test in lab and hardware environments
  • Ability to work onsite 100%
  • Ability to travel up to 10%
Preferred / Additional Skills
  • Proficient with Atlassian Tools (Confluence, JIRA, Bitbucket, etc.)
  • Version control and issue tracking (Gitlab, Atlassian suite)
  • FPGA software experience
  • Experience with Xilinx FPGAs and Vivado
  • Experience with Xilinx/AMD and Micro Semi/Microchip part families internal FPGA fabric and IP
  • Test automation and verification frameworks
  • Proficient in Python development
  • Python for tooling, automation, and simulation support
  • Familiarity with software requirements development using Model‑Based System Engineering (MBSE) concepts and tools (Cameo)
  • Digital simulation (SIL/MIL/HIL) and closed‑loop testing
  • Hardware/software integration and troubleshooting
  • Experience with safety‑critical software development practices (DO‑178C)
  • Experience with navigation, guidance, and control implementation
  • Experience with signal processing implementation
  • Experience communicating and documenting complex technical designs
  • Ability to work in a collaborative and team‑based environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
