Job Description

Regular job duties of this fast-paced position will include the following:

This position will ensure the production of a clear and understandable record of court proceedings by monitoring the electronic recording equipment, maintaining detailed, accurate, and legible log notes, and maintaining and promoting proper decorum in apparel and demeanor.

The incumbent will prepare the courtroom for daily hearings by setting up, organizing, and maintaining the space, which includes operating and testing equipment. You will recognize any damaged or malfunctioning equipment and take appropriate action to troubleshoot and correct issues when possible. To facilitate the timeliness of hearings, the incumbent will gather parties, call for in-custody defendants, place calls to parties for telephonic hearings, and relay information to the judge or judicial assistant.

Additionally, you will administer oaths and distribute temporary orders, pre-sentence orders, and other required paperwork. You will be responsible for the care and maintenance of exhibits, ensuring that they are marked, listed on the exhibit list, properly accounted for, and stored during the trial. At the end of the trial, exhibits will be returned to the parties or placed into storage.

You will also ensure the safety, comfort, and well-being of jurors during jury trials and will be accountable for the playback of testimony during deliberations. When not in court, you may assist other court departments and perform other duties as assigned by the Clerk of Court.

This position will fill in as backup to the evening, weekend, and holiday clerks when needed. These positions will work overtime when necessary and assist in the training of new employees.

The Work Schedule

Full-time court employees are currently scheduled to work 37.5 hours per week. The work hours for this position are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate AND one year of office clerical experience AND the ability to keyboard at least 40 words per minute (net).

Substitution:

Additional office clerical work experience will substitute for the high school diploma or GED certificate on a month-for-month basis.

Completion of 36 semester credit hours or 48 quarter credit hours of coursework from an accredited college will substitute for the year of required office clerical experience.

Completion of an appropriate vocational training course of study such as legal secretary, paralegal, or office skills will substitute for the required office clerical experience on a month-for-month basis.
