Employees transferring from another State of Alaska agency may receive consideration for an advance step placement.
Responsibilities- Ensure the production of a clear and understandable record of court proceedings by monitoring electronic recording equipment, maintaining detailed and accurate log notes, and promoting decorum in apparel and demeanor.
- Prepare the courtroom for daily hearings by setting up, organizing, and maintaining the space, including operating and testing equipment, troubleshooting equipment issues, and keeping equipment in working order.
- Facilitate the timeliness of hearings by gathering parties, calling for in‑custody defendants, placing calls to parties for telephonic hearings, and relaying information to the judge or judicial assistant.
- Administer oaths and distribute temporary orders, pre‑sentence orders, and other required paperwork.
- Care for and maintain exhibits, ensuring they are marked, listed, accounted for, and stored during trial, and returned to parties or stored afterward.
- Ensure safety, comfort, and well‑being of jurors during trials and account for the playback of testimony during deliberations.
- When not in court, assist other court departments and perform duties assigned by the Clerk of Court.
- Provide backup coverage for the evening, weekend, and holiday clerks; work overtime when necessary and assist in training new employees.
- Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate.
- One year of office clerical experience.
- Ability to keyboard at least 40 words per minute (net).
- Substitution options:
- One year of office clerical experience can substitute for a high school diploma or GED on a month‑for‑month basis.
- 36 semester credit hours or 48 quarter credit hours of coursework from an accredited college can substitute for the required office clerical experience.
- Appropriate vocational training such as legal secretary, paralegal, or office skills courses can substitute for the required experience on a month‑for‑month basis.
- 12 paid holidays.

37.5 hours per week, Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a one‑hour lunch break.
