Job Summary To help students overcome problems that impede learning and to assist them in making educational, occupational, and life plans that hold promise for their personal fulfillment as mature and responsible men and women.
Lead counseling groups, teach social‑emotional learning groups, and assist in the MTSS process for behavior.
Position requires knowledge of academic scheduling, academic counseling, test management, community outreach, career and college readiness, Senior Award Night ceremony, and a trauma‑sensitive school model.
Knowledge of SEL and ACES preferred.
Qualifications
Alaska Certificate Type C with an endorsement in Counseling.
Essential Duties
Provides assistance to students in course and subject selection.Obtains and disseminates occupational information to students.Assists students in evaluating their aptitudes and abilities through the interpretation of individual standardized test scores and other pertinent data, and works with students in developing education and occupation plans.Works with students to resolve educational handicaps, to prevent drop‑outs, to discover and develop special abilities, and to evaluate career interests and choices.Registers new students and provides an orientation to the students about the school.Works with students on an individualized basis to help students solve personal problems, developing both a self‑understanding and an understanding of others as each student grows and matures.Plans relevant guidance trips for students, and guides students in both school and community activities.Works with students in the preparation, processing of college, scholarship, and employment applications; makes recommendations for admissions and scholarships, and provides student information to colleges and potential employers according to district policy.Maintains student records, such as attendance records, cumulative progress records, activity records, and uniform transcript records.Confers with parents and teachers when necessary.Assists in orientation of new faculty, providing in‑service training to teachers regarding guidance and counseling issues.Advises administrators and faculty on matters of student discipline.Interprets school objectives and guidance program to students, parents, and the community.Assists in arranging for tutors and summer school work of students.Attends I.E.P. meetings as required.Promotes the positive image of the school district and positive public relations at all times.Other duties as assigned.Physical Requirements
Light Work:
Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
