Position Overview
Assistant Professor of Political Science – Matanuska‑Susitna College, University of Alaska Anchorage. Begin August9,2026 for the 2026‑2027 academic year. The role focuses on teaching undergraduate political science, primarily 100‑level courses, with occasional upper‑division instruction and potential secondary teaching in related Social Science disciplines.
Responsibilities- Teach 100‑level political science courses to undergraduate students.
- Occasionally teach upper‑division political science courses and possibly a class in a secondary Social Science discipline.
- Integrate technology to support student learning in face‑to‑face, hybrid, and distance formats.
- Participate in faculty service activities, including committee memberships and community outreach.
- Encourage active student engagement and support student success.
- Earned doctoral degree in Political Science or a closely related field from a regionally accredited university. Must be completed by August
2026. - At least two years of teaching experience, preferably at the college level, including as a graduate teaching assistant.
- Experience with current learning technologies (Blackboard, LMS, audio/video components, interactive learning objects, lecture capture, smartboards).
- Demonstrated ability to teach lower‑division political science and, where possible, other Social Science disciplines such as Alaska Native Studies, Anthropology, or Philosophy.
- Commitment to student success and inclusive teaching practices.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States without restriction.
