To teach 6th‑8th grade Language Arts using a variety of instructional techniques and the district curriculum. Create an excellent classroom environment that is conducive to learning for each individual student, and work positively with the Middle School LA team.
QualificationsAlaska Teaching Certificate – Type A and a Bachelor’s degree. Experience with trauma‑sensitive schools preferred. Endorsement for assigned teaching courses preferred.
Essential Duties- Meet and instruct assigned classes at times designated by the principal.
- Plan a program of study that meets students’ individual needs, interests, and abilities and adheres to district curricular objectives.
- Display a conceptual knowledge of the content being taught.
- Select and/or create teaching materials that fit the instructional plan.
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for students’ maturity and interests; adjust teaching strategies to meet student needs.
- Communicate information, explanations, justifications, expectations, directions, and evaluations to students, teachers, parents, district staff, and community members clearly and efficiently.
- Prepare lessons with written evidence of preparation upon request of the principal.
- Establish clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects and communicate them to students, guiding learning toward curriculum goals.
- Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent with classroom conditions and student needs.
- Assess student accomplishments regularly and provide progress reports as required; select or administer suitable tests for summative, formative, and diagnostic purposes.
- Take all necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintain accurate records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
- Assist administration in implementing policies and rules governing student life and conduct; develop reasonable behavior rules and procedures, maintain classroom order, and encourage students to meet standards.
- Be available to students and parents for education‑related purposes outside the instructional day when requested.
- Supervise and plan assignments for volunteers and assist the principal in supervising and evaluating classified staff as requested.
- Strive to maintain and improve professional competence, attend staff meetings, and serve on committees.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.
LIGHT WORK:
Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, or a negligible amount of force continuously to move objects. If arm/leg controls require exertion greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.
