Position: HSE Technician Intern-BBNC Shareholders ONLY

Field HSE Technician Intern

Alaska Directional Drilling is looking for a field HSE technician to help support the HSE department during our busy summer construction season out of our main office in Palmer, Alaska. Under the general direction and guidance of HSE leadership, the HSE Field Technician will be field based for most of the workday. The HSE Technician will maintain a safety presence across assigned work sites and will be largely available in accordance with project work schedules which may include extended or after-hour work, dependent on the work scope for the day.

Dates of Employment: 6-month internship;
May 1, 2026 - November 1, 2026

Employment dates subjective to program/school enrollment

Work Schedule:

Monday through Friday 6:30am to 5:00pm

Wage: $20/hour

Work gear:
Steel or composite toe work boots required to be worn on worksite. All other PPE to be provided by Alaska Directional;
Hard hat, hi-viz/reflective safety vest, work gloves, safety glasses, and noise protection.

College Degree/ Major Preferred:
Currently enrolled in Occupational Safety and Health BS, AAS, or minor for degree or completed OSH BS or AAS

Apprentice Program Preferred: N/A

Qualifications

  • Basic understanding of HSE principles and practices
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong time-management skills
  • Strong knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices- may substitute with ability to find solutions through various resources
  • Ability to follow given instructions
  • Must be able to work in a team environment
  • Demonstrates ability to clearly communicate technical information, observations, and expectations through both written documentation and verbal interaction with field personnel and leadership.
  • High resilience and adaptability in dynamic environments
  • Ability to self-direct
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Working knowledge of safety management information systems

Education & Experience

  • Proof of enrollment in associates degree program or equivalent certification(s) in health, safety and environmental related field
  • OSHA 10-Hour (General Industry or Construction)
  • 1–2 years of experience in safety, environmental, construction, or industrial roles

Responsibilities

  • Supports basic field health, safety, and environmental compliance activities under supervision
  • Supports the implementation of HSE policies and programs in the field
  • Conducts field safety inspections and audits
  • Support incident reporting and investigation processes
  • Support and help drive company observation program
  • Participate in safety meetings and pre work toolbox talks
  • Transfer field data to office HSE for client communications

Work Environment

  • This is a full-time, seasonal position assigned to Palmer or Anchorage, Alaska. Flexibility regarding hours of work is required as needed to meet demands of the job
  • Position may be exposed to extremely hostile weather conditions at times while working outdoors.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works at the construction site. The employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. The noise in these work environments is usually moderate to loud.
  • Position may be working with potentially hazardous materials and wastes.

Contingencies:

Offer contingent upon ability to pass a pre-employment drug test.

Mandatory Requirements

  • 1-2-Years of experience in a full-time safety position.
  • Valid Alaska Driver's License.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment and random drug testing.

Physical Requirements

  • Physical and technical requirements that meet the standards of AKD.
  • Infrequent lifting up to 50lbs
  • Frequent walking and standing for periods exceeding 2 hours.
  • Frequent keyboard use and sitting at a desk.
  • Frequent bending, twisting, and reaching.
