Adult Probation Officer 1/2B – Palmer Probation Office, Palmer, Alaska
Position Summary: The Department of Corrections, Division of Pretrial, Probation, Parole is recruiting an Adult Probation Officer 1/2B to serve at the Palmer Probation Office, overseeing supervision of felony offenders in the Matanuska‑Susitna Valley and adjacent communities. The role involves direct client work, court reporting, and collaborative work with treatment and law‑enforcement partners.
What You Will Be DoingJob duties of a field Probation Officer include:
- Conducting office meetings, interviews, and risk/need assessments with defendants
- Administering urinalysis tests and providing referrals for treatment needs
- Conducting field contacts, monitoring compliance, and executing violation arrests
- Performing presentence investigations and preparing reports for the Court
The office is responsible for supervising offenders in a wide geographic area that extends to Talkeetna, Cordova, Glennallen, and Valdez. Frequent travel is required. Personnel will work with a collaborative team that includes rehabilitative organizations and local law‑enforcement agencies.

Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in any field, or four years of paraprofessional experience in probation, parole, pretrial, criminal justice, juvenile justice, social services, corrections, criminal investigation, public safety, or law enforcement.
Experience: One year of professional experience in probation, parole, pretrial, criminal justice, juvenile justice, social services, criminal investigation, public safety, or law enforcement (or equivalent combination of post‑secondary education and experience).
Additional Requirements: Must be 21 years old, a U.S. citizen or National, hold a high school diploma or GED, and possess a valid U.S. driver’s license. A valid firearms proficiency qualification may be required for some level or as determined by the Department.
