Pretrial Services Officer 1/2

Location:

Palmer Pretrial Enforcement Office, Palmer, Alaska.

What You Will Be Doing:

Assesses and supervises adult defendants on pretrial status with the Alaska Court System. Performs risk assessments, monitors defendants, and enforces court‑issued conditions of release. Supervises defendants by providing referrals for services, conducting field and home contacts, performing drug and alcohol screening, administering electronic monitoring, making arrests when necessary, and reporting concerns to the court.

The Palmer Pretrial Enforcement Officer serves all communities within the Mat‑Su valley.

Who We Are Looking For

We are interested in candidates who possess some or all of the following position specific competencies:

Pretrial Services Officer 1 Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in any field.
  • Or four years of paraprofessional experience in probation, parole, pretrial, criminal justice, juvenile justice, social services, corrections, criminal investigation, public safety or law enforcement.
  • Or combination of postsecondary education and paraprofessional experience totaling equivalent to four years (e.g., 2.67 semester or 4 quarter hours of education equal to one month of experience).
  • Advance to Pretrial Services Officer 2 only after completing training, APSC requirements, and being certified as prepared for the next level.
Pretrial Services Officer 2 Qualifications
  • Successful completion of Pretrial Services Officer 1 training plan.
  • Or a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in any field.
  • And one year of professional experience in probation, parole, pretrial, criminal justice, juvenile justice, public safety, law enforcement or corrections.
  • Or combination of postsecondary education and paraprofessional experience totaling five years (e.g., 2.67 semester or 4 quarter hours of education equal to one month of experience).
Special Requirements
  • Must be 21 years of age and a United States citizen, United States National, or have lawful immigration status.
  • Must possess a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license at the time of appointment.
  • Position requires carrying a firearm and maintaining firearms proficiency qualification.
  • May require shift assignments and on‑call availability.
  • Civil service rules may require a basic correctional officer certificate within 14 months of hire for certain past positions.
