Adult Probation Officer 3 – Training Academy (Palmer, Alaska) What you will be doing
You will develop and deliver curriculum for Pretrial, Probation, and Parole training academies and in-service department personnel. You will coordinate training programs and provide ongoing educational opportunities for the Department of Corrections.

Working environmentThe Academy is located in the Palmer State Office Building. It is a fast‑paced, small‑team setting with classroom and off‑site training throughout Alaska, including travel to division offices.
Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in any field.
- At least two years of professional experience in probation, parole, pretrial, criminal or juvenile justice, social services, investigation, public safety, law enforcement, or as a social services case manager or counselor; or the equivalent combination of post‑secondary education and paraprofessional experience.
- Must be 21 years of age, a U.S. citizen or national, and hold a high‑school diploma, GED, or equivalent; a valid U.S. driver’s license.
- Legal requirements: no disqualifying criminal record (e.g., felony, misdemeanor related to domestic violence, dishonesty, tampering with controlled substances, etc.).
- Some positions may require a firearm and maintaining a proficiency qualification.
- Program oversight – plan, coordinate, and monitor programs to meet federal, state, and local requirements.
- Criminal law – knowledge of state and federal criminal laws and evidentiary procedures.
- Decision making – make sound, objective decisions and enact change.
- Legal, government, and jurisprudence – knowledge of laws, court procedures, and government functions.
- Arrest procedures – understanding of apprehension principles and lawful use of force.
