We are a 68-bed community hospital in Palmer, Massachusetts. We provide access to the world‑class doctors, treatments, diagnostics, and technology of the Baystate Health network. Schedule:
Full‑time, 40 hours. Evening shift: 3:00pm – 11:30pm. Rotating weekend and holiday coverage. Location:
Baystate Wing Hospital, Palmer, MA. On‑site parking available.

Job Responsibilities
  • Patrol facility and grounds or maintain fixed post coverage, inspecting for security, health, and safety hazards, unauthorized persons, and unsecured doors and windows; take corrective action as necessary.
  • Respond to calls for service, alarms, and emergency code activation; render aid, traffic/pedestrian control, and clinician assistance such as de‑escalating emotionally distressed persons.
  • Report any unusual occurrences, property damage, thefts, and suspicious activities; prepare specific reports and interact with staff to communicate crime prevention and security awareness.
  • Enforce the access control program, issue visitor badges, explain access denials, identify persons without identification, secure doors, and complete unsecured door reports.
  • Focus on protection, safeguarding, security, and customer service needs of patients, visitors, and employees.
  • Respond to codes and other emergencies immediately; operate fire equipment, follow emergency response plans, and assist in setting up the emergency operations center.
  • Assist in traffic control, keep fire lanes clear, provide directions to visitors, and perform traffic control for helicopter landings.
  • Handle disruptive situations, employ crisis intervention techniques, and use effective de‑escalation techniques.
  • Provide escorts as directed by the security supervisor.
  • Conduct preliminary investigations by collecting required information at incident scenes and rendering timely reports.
  • Perform special assignments, including controlling patient movements, providing support to clinics or offices, and providing security for special events.
  • Demonstrate and model principles of service excellence in support of the patient/employee experience.
  • Complete incident reports objectively and submit them before departing the shift.
  • Operate the m to create and re‑print s and provide access to the Premisys System.
  • Swipe card access readers during building rounds.
  • Demonstrate professionalism in directing employees, staff, visitors, and patients.
  • Minimum Qualifications
    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Active U.S. driver’s license.
    Preferred Experience
    • 3–6 months of military, police, fire, corrections, behavioral health, or healthcare security experience.
    • Associate or bachelor’s degree in a related field may be considered in lieu of experience.
    Skills and Competencies
    • Proficient in Microsoft Word and report writing.
    • Strong customer service and communication skills.
    • Ability to utilize computer systems to document work activity.
    Education

    GED or HiSET (required).

    Certifications
    • Driver’s license – Other Other
    • International Association Healthcare Safety and Security Basic Officer Certification – I.A.H.S.S.
    Compensation

    The compensation range(s) represent base salaries for all positions at a given grade across the health system. Starting salaries are typically in the lower part of the range.

    • Minimum: $19.29
    • Midpoint: $22.16
    • Maximum: $25.87
