Position: Cable Splicer (Seasonal)

Under the direction of the assigned Supervisor, performs the installation, rearrangement, and repair of the Association's cable plant facilities.

Illustrative Tasks
  • Accomplishes construction and maintenance splicing in a safe, efficient manner to comply with Association, RUS, and industry standards.
  • Installs, repairs and maintains equipment related to splicing fiber optic and copper cable assemblies.
  • Performs required testing on completed jobs to ensure trouble-free service and properly records data as required.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills
  • Knowledge of association, RUS, industry standards and the color code as related to fiber optic and copper cable splicing and repair.
  • Must be able to safely climb poles, operate bucket trucks, and work from a ladder.
  • Must have the ability to accept responsibility and to work under stressful situations.
  • Must be able to neatly and accurately record splicing functions on as-builts.
  • Must have the ability to accomplish detail type work in accordance with industry and association standards with journeyman level craftsmanship.
  • Must have the ability to work in FTTH, FTTB, fiber transport without unscheduled interruption to services.
  • Must have the ability to work in POTS, span line and circuits without unscheduled interruption to services.
  • Must be able to interpret cable records and cutsheets.
  • Must have working knowledge of core alignment single and ribbon fusion splicing practices.
  • Must have the ability to install and maintain fiber optic splice cases, patch panels, building terminals, FDH and pedestals.
  • Must have working knowledge of 3M MS2 and connector splicing practices.
  • Must have the ability to install and maintain copper splice cases, building terminals, cross connections and pedestals.
  • A general working knowledge of fiber optic and copper cable restoration.
  • Must have basic computer skills to access mapping programs and interpret fiber optic traces and record results.
