The City of Sterling is looking for a motivated, hands‑on individual to join our team as a Utility Maintenance Worker I. As a Utility Maintenance Worker I, you’ll help maintain and repair our public infrastructure—roads, water lines, sewer systems, and more. One of your key responsibilities will be operating light to medium equipment to complete hands‑on repairs and projects throughout the city.

• Assist with underground utility repairs and general maintenance
• Work in confined spaces using safety ventilation equipment
• Perform minor plumbing, electrical, and construction work
• Operate tools, machinery, and vehicles in a safe and responsible way
• Participate in a rotating on‑call schedule for utility emergencies
• Troubleshoot issues and respond to community infrastructure needs

• High school diploma or GED
• Experience in construction, agriculture, or facility maintenance preferred
• Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs., climb, crouch, and work in confined spaces
• Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions
• Comfortable using tools, basic math, and following instructions

• Must obtain a LevelI Certification in Sewer Collections and/or Water Distribution within1year (we’ll help you get there!)
• Will train and help you earn your Colorado Class B CDL with Tanker Endorsement (no experience necessary)

• Full‑time position with rotating on‑call responsibilities
• Must reside in or be within a 30minute commute
• Must be able to pass a pre‑employment drug screen (We follow Federal Guidelines) and background check
