Position OverviewMechanic – Automotive – Advanced Journey/Lead with the Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Equipment Fleet. The role supports secondary road construction, rural airports, and agency vehicles across Alaska. You will help keep Alaska moving.
Responsibilities- Maintain heavy‑duty and light‑duty equipment and vehicles used in secondary road, airport, and agency operations.
- Diagnose, repair, and modify transmission, drive train, suspension, engine and emission, fuel injection, hydraulic, and brake systems including air and electrical for both light‑ and heavy‑duty equipment.
- Resolve unusual or complex equipment problems using a variety of techniques and methods.
- Perform routine and specialized maintenance on a variety of heavy equipment.
- Position located at MP 135 Denali Highway, Cantwell, AK.
- Travel in small planes to remote locations; day trips and overnight stays may be required.
- Work in diverse Alaska terrain and extreme weather conditions, maintaining roads, bridges, airports, and public facilities.
- Strong mechanical knowledge of machines, tools, and vehicle systems.
- Flexibility and rapid adaptation to new information and changing conditions.
- Knowledge of motor vehicle engines, parts, and systems, including design, repair, and maintenance.
- Self‑management skills: set realistic goals, work with minimal supervision, and demonstrate initiative and commitment.
- Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) – Class A required.

At hire you must obtain a Class A Alaska CDL within 120 days and sign a written agreement to this effect.

Tool AllowanceEmployees provide their own hand tools and will receive a monthly tool allowance determined by position.
