Responsibilities
- Equipment Operator Journey 1: Operate light duty equipment to perform maintenance activities supporting State of Alaska infrastructure. Heavy‑duty equipment usage is limited to training.
- Equipment Operator Journey 2: Operate heavy equipment to perform maintenance activities. Shift work may be required.
- Transportation:
Knowledge of principles and methods for moving people or goods by air, rail, sea, or road including costs and limits. - Vehicle Operation:
Knowledge of procedures for operating motor vehicles, including cars, trucks, and watercraft. - Problem Solving:
Ability to identify problems, evaluate alternatives, and make recommendations using sound judgment. - Eye‑Hand Coordination:
Accurate coordination of visual and manual tasks to manipulate objects.
- Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required for both Journey 1 and Journey 2. The license must be obtained within 90–180 days of hire and maintained thereafter.
- For Journey 2, a Class A CDL with a Tanker (N) endorsement is required at the time of appointment, or obtained within 90 days of hire.
- Hazardous Materials (Haz Mat) endorsement may be required on a conditional basis.
- All applicants must successfully complete pre‑employment drug and alcohol testing and background checks. Random testing will continue during employment.
- Where applicable, firearms qualification must be obtained and maintained.

The position is based in Iliamna, Alaska, and includes work in remote and urban locations. Employees may be required to operate in extreme weather, maintain roads, bridges, airports, and public facilities, and respond to emergency situations.
