- Implement and adapt direct/explicit academic and specially designed instruction across content areas using multi‑sensory teaching, differentiated strategies, including use of modified content, methodology, and performance criteria as needed, as well as assistive/educational technology in the classroom, for designated students receiving services in an inclusion setting.
- Bachelor’s degree required;
Master’s degree preferred - MA Licensure as Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities (5-12) – required
- Highly qualified in general curriculum – required
- Knowledge of MA Curriculum Frameworks and integration of state frameworks into local curricula for reading, written language, mathematics, & functional skills
- Knowledge and training in structured reading methodology – preferred
- Educational background or experience with differentiated instruction in an inclusive setting, including proven skills in classroom management, co‑teaching and instructional strategies
- Citizenship, residency or work visa in United States – required
- Implement and adapt direct/explicit academic and specially designed instruction across content areas using multi‑sensory teaching, differentiated strategies, and assistive/educational technology for students receiving services in a self‑contained setting.
- Experience with behavioral therapeutic techniques with a diverse population – preferred
- Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students
- Collaborate with grade level teachers, other special education teachers, and specialists to provide comprehensive services
- Promote and assist in the implementation of research‑based strategies to ensure transition and generalization of students’ academic and social goals throughout the school
- Assess student progress towards objectives, expectations, and goals and provide feedback to students, parents, and administration
- Serve as contact person for designated caseload, completing paperwork, managing IEP process, and maintaining communication with parents and providers
- Utilize appropriate classroom management strategies, including a positive behavior intervention system, to ensure a successful instructional environment
- Use a multi‑disciplinary approach to gather data for progress monitoring and implement data‑based decision making
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to students’ maturity and interests
- Guide the learning process toward district curriculum goals and communicate objectives
- Prepare for assigned classes and show written evidence of preparation when required
- Maintain accurate records as required by law and district policy
- Diagnose learning challenges of students and seek assistance of specialists as required
- Take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
- Follow school conduct code and enforce classroom rules fairly
- Plan and supervise assignments for paraprofessionals, and make evaluations as required
- Maintain professional expectations and participate in teacher evaluation process
- Attend building and district meetings and school-sponsored activities
- Contribute to district and building decisions regarding budget, facilities, curriculum, and personal well‑being
- Improve professional competence continuously
- Provide supervision to paraprofessionals
- Coordinate schedules to ensure compliance with IEP requirements
- Consult with staff and administration on instructional/student issues
- Perform other duties as reasonably required
