Location:
Baystate Wing Hospital – Palmer, Massachusetts
Every other weekend and holiday required.
SummaryDaily activities are coordinated by the registered nurse (RN). The PCT performs a variety of technical tasks and bedside functions, including direct patient care, hygiene, skin care, mobility, monitoring, phlebotomy, EKGs, and equipment management. The PCT is expected to manage equipment, assist or perform procedures on the unit, and perform other similar duties as assigned.
Baystate Wing Hospital Summary- 74‑bed community hospital in Palmer, Massachusetts, fully accredited by the Joint Commission and designated a Primary Stroke Service hospital.
- 46‑bed Medical Surgical unit includes telemetry and intermediate care and supplies care for the emergency department’s overflow. Nurses are cross‑trained to cover telemetry, IMC, and the ED.
- Provides age‑appropriate care to patients.
- Demonstrates knowledge of developmental stages for the following age groups and applies developmental theories and concepts when implementing care.
- Monitors basic physiological parameters and records routine vital signs.
- Obtains and documents weights/heights, abdominal girths, and head circumference (Pediatric Service) per order.
- Communicates significant deviations in vital signs, drainage patterns, or other findings as outlined in procedures.
- Administers treatments and procedures per policy.
- Changes dressings within specified timeframe and provides post‑mortem care per policy.
- Performs all nursing procedures within area of responsibility and assists physicians with exams and simple procedures.
- Assists patients with elimination of body wastes and provides bedpan, urinal, or emesis basin as requested.
- Accurately labels and sends specimens of urine, feces, or sputum within 30 minutes of collection.
- Measures and records intake and output per established policy.
- Administers enemas or Harris Drips per established procedure.
- Performs Point‑of‑Care (POC) Testing.
- Assists in delivery of ancillary services, follows treatment plans, monitors patient condition, and documents treatments consistently.
- Communicates effectively with team and patients, providing respectful and informative care.
- Initiates emergency procedures and responds effectively to emergencies, maintaining patient safety at all times.
- Functions as a member of the team, assisting with clinical and non‑clinical activities, providing feedback, and maintaining competency for observation of patients.
This position is part of a career ladder and hiring level determined by Recruitment.
Level I- PCT or CNA training, preferred.
- BLS CPR Certification through American Heart Association, required.
- High School diploma or GED.
- At least one year of patient‑care experience.
- BLS CPR Certification through American Heart Association, required.
- High School diploma or GED.
- Three or more years of patient‑care experience or at least one year as a Level II PCT at Baystate Health.
- BLS CPR Certification through American Heart Association, required.
- High School diploma or GED.
- Four or more years of acute or specialty‑specific care experience or at least one year as a Level III PCT at Baystate Health.
- BLS CPR Certification through American Heart Association, required.
- Proficient in reading and writing in English.
- Ability to maintain professional composure in medium to high‑stress situations.

Base pay range: $17.01 – $21.57 – $28.08 per hour. Additional compensation may include incentive payments and benefits.
