Job Description & How to Apply Below

Adecco is recruiting on behalf of our client in Palmyra, NJ for a Project Engineering Manager to lead high-impact capital projects in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment. This is a hands-on role focused on major equipment installs, line upgrades, plantwide technology improvements, and facility modernization initiatives. The ideal candidate is comfortable on the plant floor, can manage contractors and timelines, and has experience executing million-dollar-plus projects in continuous manufacturing settings.

What

you will do
  • Own capital project execution from scope through commissioning for equipment purchases, installs, line upgrades, and facility improvement projects.
  • Build and maintain detailed project schedules in Microsoft Project
, including milestones, dependencies, critical path, and resource constraints.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Engineering, Maintenance, Production, EHS, and Quality to validate requirements, finalize specifications, and secure internal approvals.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external vendors to manage design changes, production impacts, outage windows, and project milestones.
  • Manage budgets, track spend, and provide clear reporting on project status, risks, and key performance metrics.
  • Lead contractor and vendor management including bid evaluations, field oversight, work coordination, and schedule adherence.
  • Ensure project readiness by confirming required safety training for all project team members, contractors, and vendor partners prior to site work.
  • Align project execution with safety, environmental, quality, governance, and ISO-aligned standards, including strict PPE and incident reporting practices.
  • Support planned outages and urgent equipment repair events that fall under project scope, coordinating contractors and recovery schedules.
  • Build trust on the floor by being visible, approachable, and engaged with operators and maintenance teams while learning site processes and equipment.
What we are looking for

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or Chemical Engineering (or closely related field).
  • A strong exception may be considered for someone who progressed from Maintenance into capital project leadership in a heavy industrial setting.
  • 5+ years of project management and capital project execution experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Heavy industrial experience is required (large-scale equipment, high-energy processes, cranes, furnaces, press lines, material handling, etc.).
  • Proven experience delivering large projects, ideally $1M+ capital investments.
  • Strong working knowledge of project planning, budgeting, contractor management, and commissioning/start-up support.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project
    .
  • Strong leadership presence and communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders and drive decisions.

Preferred

  • Experience in continuous process manufacturing (extrusion, metals, chemicals, high-volume industrial production).
  • Mechanical engineering background with practical equipment, layout, and installation experience.
  • Familiarity with basic controls systems (pneumatic/hydraulic systems, industrial equipment integration).
  • Experience producing technical documentation such as equipment specifications, drawings review, test plans, SOPs, and capital expenditure proposals.
Work environment

This is an on-site role split between office and plant-floor work. The plant environment includes high noise levels, industrial traffic, and temperature variation typical of heavy manufacturing facilities.

Why this role

You will step into a visible, high-impact position where leadership is looking for a true doer who can take ownership of critical projects, reduce reliance on out-of-state resources, and strengthen execution capability at the site. If you like being in the middle of the action, running big installs, coordinating outages, and getting results, this is a strong fit.
