Our Older Adult Behavioral Health Program provides long term psychiatric and skilled nursing care to individuals living with Serious Mental Illness (SMI) in a structured, therapeutic environment. Through a multidisciplinary approach, we promote recovery, dignity, independence, and improved quality of life.
OverviewThe Behavioral Wellness Center at Girard is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Behavioral Medicine team. This Part Time position is scheduled for 24 hours per week, every other weekend, and provides an opportunity to deliver high quality psychiatric and behavioral health nursing care in a structured inpatient setting.
As a Registered Nurse, you will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care while collaborating with psychiatrists, behavioral health technicians, social workers, therapists, and interdisciplinary treatment teams. This role is ideal for nurses who are passionate about behavioral health, psychiatric nursing, mental health, and caring for older adults with complex behavioral health needs.
This position is well suited for candidates with experience in Behavioral Health, Psychiatric Nursing, Mental Health, Inpatient Psychiatry, Substance Use Treatment, Skilled Nursing, Long Term Care, Geriatric Nursing, or Medical Surgical Nursing.
Important:
All new hires must attend a mandatory five day orientation, Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, prior to beginning their regular work schedule.
• Deliver comprehensive behavioral health nursing care in accordance with professional nursing standards and organizational policies
• Conduct psychiatric and physical health assessments, screenings, and crisis interventions
• Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care plans
• Administer medications and monitor patients for therapeutic effectiveness and adverse reactions
• Monitor changes in psychiatric symptoms, medical conditions, and overall patient status
• Respond appropriately to psychiatric emergencies and behavioral crises
• Maintain a safe, structured, and therapeutic treatment environment
Patient Care• Build therapeutic relationships using recovery oriented and trauma informed care principles
• Educate patients and families regarding medications, treatment plans, and discharge planning when appropriate
• Assist with admissions, transfers, and discharge processes
Collaboration & Documentation• Supervise Behavioral Health Technicians and support quality patient care
• Collaborate with psychiatrists, physicians, therapists, social workers, case managers, and interdisciplinary treatment teams
• Accurately document assessments, interventions, medications, and patient progress within the Electronic Health Record (EHR)
• Participate in treatment team meetings, performance improvement initiatives, and regulatory compliance activities
• Serve as Charge Nurse when assigned
Qualifications Education• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing required
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
Licensure & Certifications• Current Pennsylvania Registered Nurse (RN) license required
• Current CPR/BLS certification required
Experience• Three to five years of behavioral health nursing experience required
• Experience in psychiatric nursing, inpatient behavioral health, substance use treatment, or older adult behavioral health preferred
• Bilingual English and Spanish is a plus
• Must meet the requirements of the Pennsylvania Older Adults Protective Services Act (Act 169)
