What to Expect

The Global Business Development team works to analyze markets, shape emerging business models, and advise the energy business on how best to meet Tesla's mission of building a world of amazing abundance.

This is a dynamic role that requires a broad range of skillsets and experience, with responsibilities including owning and executing strategic initiatives and projects, developing new business models, and synthesizing tough problems into executive-level decision points. Strong candidates for this role will be well-versed in on-site power deployments (including at data centers, remote communities & mines, and oil field operations) and their associated energy technologies, and will bring a structured approach to solving problems, strong executive-level communications, and a history of successfully managing a wide array of projects and stakeholders.

Working on Tesla's Energy Business Development Team requires wearing many hats and adapting to a fast-paced work environment.

Besides a rock-solid work ethic and a strong team-oriented personality, members of the team must display creativity, passion, and a desire to break new ground in a constantly shifting landscape.

The role is based at Tesla's offices in Palo Alto, CA or Austin, TX. Some travel is required.

What You'll Do
  • Explore new business models and applications for energy storage as part of on-site power systems, including thermal generation plant co-optimization, reliability enhancements, and new use case enablement
  • Understand emerging industry trends and educate the rest of the company and update strategy, offers, and products accordingly
  • Lead cross-functional, cross-regional initiatives to align on organizational strategy and present results to leadership
  • Develop and execute outreach strategies with major market players, potential customers, and potential partners in support of the team's many initiatives
What You'll Bring
  • Excellent understanding of on-site power landscape, including remote & temporary power deployments. Strong existing connections across the industry preferred
  • Entrepreneurial mindset - self-starter who can explore and qualify opportunities with little direction, and has a track record of success
  • Strong communications, strategy, financial modeling, and program management skills
  • Experience presenting to executive teams, ideally in a BD or strategy role
  • 8+ years in energy or on-site power industry

Expected Compensation

$80,000 - $234,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
