Pay Range: $25 - $30 / hour
Dates of Camp: Regular Camp session is Monday, June 8, 2026 - Friday, August 7, 2026. Additional work available through Wednesday, August 12, 2026 for Post Camp.
The Place: The Oshman Family Jewish Community Center (OFJCC) is an exciting and innovative non‑profit organization in the heart of Silicon Valley. We create fun, meaningful, inclusive and joyful experiences through educational, social, cultural, spiritual, fitness and wellness programs.
Are you fluent in Hebrew and love interacting with kids? If so, this might be the role for you! As the Tayasim Unit Leader you will serve as a leader and source of support for your co‑counselors. You will be a role model, creating a welcoming and safe environment for campers to grow, learn and lead fun and exciting activities while almost exclusively speaking Hebrew.
TheCore Duties
- Supervise an assigned group of campers or rotate among several groups of campers during the camp day to ensure the safety and well‑being of each camper
- Provide support to co‑counselors and work with the J‑Camp leadership staff to work through any challenges or issues in camp
- Partner with J‑Camp leadership, International Staff (shlichim), Tayasim Project Leader and Kaytiz Kef representatives to provide authentic Hebrew Immersion programming
- Speak primarily Hebrew to Tayasim campers, throughout the day and in accordance to training
- Lead and co‑lead a variety of camp value‑based camp activities for your camper group, including but not limited to: arts and crafts, sports, STEM projects, water play and swimming, classic camp games, and team building
- Participate enthusiastically and lead your group in elements of Chavurah (morning song session), L’hitraot (afternoon song session and gratitude), and Shabbat
- Ability to provide guidance and engagement to children, grades kindergarten to sixth grade, in Hebrew.
- Previous experience working in Tayasim Hebrew Immersion Camp
- At least 18 years of age + High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
- 1+ years of experience working with youth in a camp or other recreational setting
- Maintain a positive attitude in complex situations after working long hours
- Adjust quickly to changes with open mind and flexibility
- Recognize and respond to emergency situations
- Ability to meaningfully engage with all age levels
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to communicate information clearly (both written and oral)
- Ability to make sound independent judgment and decisions when circumstances arise
- Positive, upbeat and enthusiastic about working with children
- Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with a diverse group that includes OFJCC staff, parents, children and the public
- Certified in CPR for Children and Adults (or ability to obtain certification upon employment)
- Current driver’s license and ability to drive a camp vehicle if necessary
