Math Teacher - Upper School position (FT)

Castilleja is a dynamic, diverse, and intentional educational community for students in grades 6–12 that believes in the power of women learning and women leading. Founded in 1907, Castilleja fulfills its mission to educate young women to become confident thinkers and compassionate leaders with a sense of purpose to effect change in the world. Every member of the Castilleja community is responsible for fostering an equitable, respectful, and just community.

We value building and sustaining authentic relationships and work together to create a collaborative learning and working environment. We are dedicated to a program that is responsive to students’ needs and identities and demonstrates a commitment to antiracist values and pedagogy.

Teaching at Castilleja

At Castilleja we know that students thrive when learning happens within and beyond classroom walls and when students actively witness engagement in the greater community by the adults in their lives. Employees are invited to and supported as they connect with our larger programming, advise students, and inspire new ways to bring the mission alive on campus. We seek educators who aspire to engage differences with courage, honesty, intellectual curiosity, respect, and humility.

Specifically, the Mathematics Department seeks educators who are interested in an explorative curriculum that promotes collaborative learning, skill development, deep conceptual understanding, and effective problem‑solving strategies. We seek a visionary teacher who is passionate about educating girls and preparing them to succeed in STEAM fields and elsewhere and is committed to providing a supportive setting in which we explore the power and beauty of mathematical ideas.

Math Teachers typically teach two preps (four sections is full‑time) and engage in school life including advisory. In lieu of teaching a section, there is the possibility of taking on the U.S. Math Resource role. This includes running Math Lab (drop‑in math office hours), supporting students one‑on‑one or in small groups both inside and outside of classes, and helping U.S. teachers in developing extensions and extra support materials.

Math teachers report to the Department Lead and Academic Leadership and work closely with other Math teachers and with grade level colleagues.
