PositionLockheed Martin Space in Palo Alto, CA is seeking a research engineer focusing on mechanical design and test for the Space Sciences and Instrumentation Team. In this role, you will contribute to the design, development, analysis, and testing of spacecraft instrumentation equipment for both internal research and development projects as well as program support. The successful candidate will have experience and/or knowledge of mechanical engineering concepts, and a demonstrated ability to conceptualize, develop, and implement solutions.
Must be a US Citizen.
- Masters degree from an accredited university or college majoring in mechanical, aeronautical/aerospace, or equivalent degree.
- Experience using software utilized in the design/analysis of hardware (CAD - Computer Aided Design and FEM - Finite Element Analysis)
- Proficient in Matlab
- Instrumentation development and/or research experience
- Experience in prototyping and/or manufacturing
- Proficient with Microsoft Office
- Must be a US Citizen
- Experience working with analyzing science data
- Application of mechanical and/or structural design in real-world/in-class applications.
- Basic knowledge of hardware applications in space environments.
- Prior NASA project experience
- Research experience in space science/hardware missions
- Ability to work in a collaborative and team-based environment
- Proficient with Microsoft Office
- Fluids and/or thermal design experience, Thermal Desktop Software
- Mechanisms and/or Mechatronics experience
- Creo CAD software experience preferred.
- Proficient in Python

Ability to Work Remotely: Onsite Full-time:
The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.
Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.

Compensation & BenefitsPay Rate:
The annual base salary range for this position in California, Massachusetts, and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington or Washington DC is $60,200 - $106,030. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate’s final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only.
