Perform technical responsibilities that may involve environmental planning for the development, conservation, preservation, and enhancement of campus lands, land-based resources, and facilities. Project assignments at this level focus on problem definition, data gathering, concept development, reporting, and graphic presentation.
Core DutiesPlanner 1 will support the Director of Land Use, Executive Director of Land Use and Environmental Planning and other Land Use and Environmental Planning team members as needed by conducting planning, analysis and research efforts and supporting the Land, Building, and Real Estate staff in a variety of policy and entitlement activities.
- Collect and analyze land use data and synthesize materials for planning projects. This includes policy documents, guidelines, illustrative plans, and university standards.
- Support planners with site analysis and recommendations on proposed building and construction sites.
- Assist with land use and environmental reviews and preparation of technical reports including:
- Manage land use data and collection from within the University for preparation of the annual report and other reporting
- Review environmental documents for projects that impact Stanford lands and draft comment letters to applicable jurisdictions
- Monitor and coordinate easement and rights of way for trail and bike/pedestrian planning and prepare correspondence with adjacent communities and internal Stanford stakeholders
- Assist with permitting associated with utility easements and encroachments on Stanford lands
- Assist with environmental and land use permitting activities (e.g., agency coordination, permit applications, etc.) including:
- Stanford Next team support which includes coordination of application tech reports, LBRE stakeholder responses on draft environmental analysis (DRAFT EIRs) and technical reports, and other administrative coordination
- Large capital plan project support which includes attendance of meetings, notes, summaries, research and other project management support
- Assist with reviewing and preparing GUP Checklists under supervision by LUEP staff, attend Engineering meetings and help coordinate entitlements and permitting)
- Assist the Director and other LUEP team members with general project management and administrative tasks, including:
- Management of contracts for technical support contracts
- Budget form completion/assistance for LUEP team members
- Digital file organization and other related tasks
Bachelor's degree in architecture, landscape architecture, planning, or other appropriate specialty and three years of directly related experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.
Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to cultivate strong and collaborative relationships inside and outside the organization.
- Proficiency in PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, Excel, Word, and other applications as applicable.
- Ability to follow direction and complete tasks with limited supervision.
Must possess and maintain a valid California non-commercial Class C Driver’s License.
Physical Requirements- Frequently sitting, perform desk-based computer tasks, grasp lightly/fine manipulation.
