Responsibilities
  • Supervise and manage Structural Designers I, II, Design Engineers, Project Engineers, and Technical Managers.
  • Lead the production of drawings, specifications, and calculations from conceptual design through construction documents.
  • Review deliverables to ensure scope and quality standards are met at all phases.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive project plans, defining objectives, scope, deliverables, and timelines.
  • Collaborate with design and construction teams to assess structural requirements and estimate resources.
  • Manage construction administration tasks, including review of shop drawings, responding to RFIs, and performing site visits.
  • Oversee development of structural designs and analytical models for building types and materials.
  • Perform or review structural calculations to ensure code compliance.
  • Utilize CAD software (Tekla Structures, 2D/3D modeling tools) to create drawings and models.
  • Assign tasks, monitor progress, and facilitate communication among engineers, modelers, and detailers.
  • Coordinate with external stakeholders such as architects, contractors, and MEP designers.
  • Lead project design meetings, set agendas, and document minutes.
  • Stay current with code updates and industry trends through continued professional development.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, cost optimization, and efficiency enhancement and lead initiatives.
  • Monitor project costs, track expenses, and manage budgets; produce monthly status reports and pursue invoices and payment.
  • Identify and pursue change orders as needed due to scope changes.
  • Provide mentorship, guidance, and professional development to team members.
Required

Skills and Abilities
  • In-depth knowledge of structural engineering principles, codes, and standards.
  • Expertise in structural design, analysis, materials, and construction techniques.
  • Subject Matter Expert (SME) status within the company for a specific knowledge area.
  • Critical thinking and problem‑solving skills to troubleshoot issues during construction.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills to prioritize and manage multiple projects.
  • Attention to detail for accurate design plans and documentation.
  • Teamwork and collaborative skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution.
  • Adaptability to make informed decisions and adjust plans under changing conditions.
  • Proficiency with CAD software and other structural engineering tools.
  • Commitment to stay updated on industry trends, technologies, and regulatory changes.
  • Advanced project management experience, including planning, organizing, and executing projects.
  • Financial and budget management knowledge, including cost tracking and monitoring.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering with a structural focus.
  • Master’s degree in Structural Engineering preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required;
    Structural Engineer (SE) license preferred.
  • Active NCEES record for licensure.
  • Minimum of twelve years of experience in building structural engineering.
Physical Requirements
  • Work at a desk or computer for prolonged periods.
  • Travel to site visits across the country.
  • Lift minimum 15 pounds when required.
