Role SummaryIn this role, the hardware design engineer will own electrical system design, bring‑up, and validation for the current and next generation of Rivian electric vehicles.
This would be a highly visible role working cross‑functionally to influence design, contribute to solving HW/SW system integration challenges, and experience complete prototyping to manufacturing product development cycle.
Responsibilities- Electrical design for in‑cabin displays, user interaction hardware, and firmware
- High‑speed display interfaces: FPDLink, LVDS, DP/eDP, HDMI, MIPI DSI
- Mixed signal designs:
Digital Logic, Embedded Systems, Analog design, Switching power supplies, LED driving circuits - Interface buses: I2C, UART, SPI, CAN, LIN
- Design for EMC and best PCB layout/cabling practices
- Guide component selection for best cost/performance/reliability/quality/serviceability
Guiding suppliers/partners throughout their design, development, implementation, and delivery processes – concept designs, design reviews, schematics/layout reviews, prototyping, testing, and debugging.
- Prototype bring‑up, bench, and vehicle testing
- Contributing to component/subsystem/vehicle level validation plans (DVP), DFMEA
- Creating, contributing to, and maintaining technology roadmaps – displays and user interactions such as touch, haptics, and gesture inputs
- Conduct system design reviews at critical gates of the product
Support ECU HW and SW development of ECU utilizing optical attributes such as ALS, RLS, etc. Not including cameras.
Qualifications- Degree in Electrical Engineering or related fields;
Master’s degree preferred - Minimum 5 years working experience on displays/touch products in addition to Digital, Analog, Mixed Signal, Power conversion, and Firmware R&D
- End‑to‑end product design/development to mass production experience required
- Working knowledge of design for EMC and other typical regulatory requirements for low‑voltage electronics
- Schematic capture, PCB layout, FPGA development systems and tools, simulation tools (Spice, Matlab, etc.)
- Understanding of display systems includes video pipe architecture, GPU, and interfaces
- Signal integrity, timing, analog signal, and power rail quality analysis and debug
- Familiarity with displays/touch panel/electronic manufacturing processes and materials
- Experience in using documentation and design release processes and PLM tools
The salary range for this role is $154,000 – $192,000 for Irvine, CA‑based applicants. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors, including but not limited to specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, and organizational needs.
The successful candidate may be eligible for an annual performance bonus and equity awards.
