Position:
Hardware Engineer – Stanford Robotics Center (SRC)
The Stanford Robotics Center brings together research labs across campus to advance robotics science. As a Hardware Engineer you will develop and maintain the robots and supporting infrastructure at SRC, contributing to projects such as Ocean One and the manufacturing bay.
In This Role, You Will- Design and develop complex equipment, instruments, or systems, including the next generation of the Ocean One robot.
- Coordinate detailed phases of work related to major or moderate‑scope projects.
- Develop technical and methodological solutions to complex engineering problems; make buy‑or‑build decisions and design build end effector change systems.
- Plan and refine the layout of the SRC manufacturing bay to support student experiments.
- Develop ROS2 software interfaces and create safe ways for students to share interfaces.
- Serve as technical advisor for flagship projects in field, underwater, manufacturing, medical, and domestic robotics.
- Contribute to articles, presentations, reports, and scientific papers.
Education & Experience (Required)
- Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (Required)
- Thorough knowledge of engineering principles and related natural sciences.
- Demonstrated project management experience.

- Advanced electromechanical skills and robotics experience.
- Successful completion of projects.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize, multi‑task, and assign work to others.
- Ability to take initiative and ownership of projects.
- Sound judgment in decision making.
- Work includes light fine manipulation, desk‑based computer tasks, lifting up to 10 lbs, occasional standing and walking.
- Occasional heavier lifting (up to 40 lbs) and work that may involve climbing, reaching, or operating controls.
- Exposure to high voltage, radiation, electromagnetic fields, lasers, noise > 80 dB, allergens, biohazards, chemicals, confined spaces, heights >10 ft, temperature extremes.
- Possibility of travel.
- Collaborates effectively with Stanford colleagues and external partners.
