Systems Engineer
At Lantaris Space Systems, we are building on a 60+ year legacy of innovation, from designing high‑gain antennas for NASAVoyager 1 and 2 to leading the industry in geostationary satellites and launching the next generation of earth‑imaging satellites. We are seeking a Sr. Systems Engineer in our Palo Alto, CA office who will apply their knowledge of Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) subsystems within our current programs.
Responsibilities- Create Concept of Operations (Con Ops) development and validation.
- Develop, decompose, and flow requirements at the mission, system, subsystem, and component levels.
- Manage requirements development and maintenance.
- Develop and maintain system budgets (mass, power, data).
- Develop and execute a full system validation and verification plan.
- Lead customer discussions regarding system design decisions.
- Define and conceptualize interface & operability requirements.
- Generate and maintain compliance matrix for system and subsystems.
- Facilitate collaboration across subsystems engineers to ensure compliance.
- Role‑model interpersonal behaviors that promote psychological safety and belonging.
- Provide senior technical oversight to ensure the expected quality, rigor, and discipline of systems engineering.
- Identify technical risks and opportunities, implement risk mitigation, and drive risk mitigation to meet programmatic timelines.
- Support proposal development and explore new business opportunities that capitalize on the company’s strengths.
- Oversee spacecraft testing and review test results.
- U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering, math, physics, or STEM field (or four additional years of experience may be substituted for a degree).
- 5 years of relevant experience in systems engineering or real‑time control of complex systems.
- Experience in GNC technologies, specifically astrodynamics, orbital mechanics, spacecraft dynamics and control, aerospace sensors, or chemical/electric propulsion systems.
- General understanding of spacecraft design and product life cycle.
- Previous experience working on United States Government programs.
- Experience with requirements management systems (e.g., DOORS, JAMA).
- Programming experience in C, C++, Python, or MATLAB and creating software tools for verification activities.
- Familiarity with software architecture, verification, and validation.
- Familiarity with risk management.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Experience developing technical processes and tailoring processes for unique programs.
The base pay for this position within California is $ - $ annually. We offer a comprehensive package of benefits, including paid time off, health and welfare insurance, and a 401(k) plan for eligible employees.
