To ensure Tesla’s overall mission of accelerating the world’s transition to sustainable energy, the Tesla Energy team is bringing its world-leading battery technology to the grid. Tesla is leveraging its breakthrough firmware, electronics, test, and manufacturing capabilities to develop and deploy grid-connected storage at residential, industrial, and utility levels.
The Residential Ecosystem team is looking for an engineer who is passionate about hardware/firmware integration and validation to drive the world’s transition to a sustainable future. This team focuses on optimization of energy resources—battery, solar, electric vehicle, and appliances—in order to reduce reliance on the grid and lower energy costs. The team emphasizes collaboration and encourages innovation while building sustainable energy solutions.
WhatYou’ll Do
- Own the end-to-end hardware and firmware integration of Tesla's Residential Ecosystem of battery and solar energy products.
- Develop and execute test plans to validate functions, features, and system performance.
- Lead and own system-level firmware validation, firmware regression, and firmware releases.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure functional, performance, safety, and compliance requirements are successfully achieved.
- Drive continuous improvement in design and performance by providing direct and accurate feedback to design owners.
- Develop and maintain interface control documentation.
- Conduct failure analysis to understand root cause and drive resolution for hardware and firmware failures originating in testing and from the field.
- Develop and maintain automated firmware tests in Python.
- Perform hands‑on system bring‑up and prototyping.
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Experience in hardware and firmware integration and validation.
- Strong electrical engineering fundamentals.
- Experience with Python, C, C++, Go, or equivalent programming experience.
- Hands‑on experience with electrical, mechanical, and software engineering components and an understanding of how they interact in a complex product.
- Proficiency with basic EE tools (oscilloscopes, power analyzers, power supplies, electronic loads, and CAN tools).
- Exceptional analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to identify and surface issues within complex hardware/software systems.
- Effective communication skills and excellent attention to detail.
- Preferred experience with stationary energy storage systems, solar inverters, electric vehicles, or home energy management systems.
