Autonomous Vehicle Triage, Simulation & Root Cause Analysis About the Role
Our automotive client is seeking a Lead / Senior Autonomous Vehicle Triage Engineer to support the investigation and resolution of issues identified during autonomous vehicle testing.
This role will be responsible for analyzing complex on-road and simulation data, identifying and categorizing issues, determining root causes, and routing findings to the appropriate engineering teams.
The ideal candidate combines strong technical investigation skills with excellent communication and documentation. This person should be able to take ownership of complex issues, communicate findings clearly across engineering teams, and help establish consistent triage processes and standards.
Responsibilities- Analyze complex streams of autonomous vehicle data including logs, video, sensor data, and metadata to identify and triage issues.
- Investigate issues detected during on-road autonomous vehicle drives and simulation testing.
- Correlate on-road issues with corresponding simulation scenarios to support reproduction, regression testing, and improved test coverage.
- Determine whether issues originate from the simulation environment/tooling or from AV stack behavior.
- Route identified issues to the appropriate engineering or owning team with clear supporting evidence.
- Perform detailed root cause investigation across complex autonomous vehicle behaviors and system interactions.
- Ensure consistent issue categorization, severity assessment, prioritization, and documentation across triage workflows.
- Create clear technical documentation outlining issue behavior, investigation steps, supporting data, findings, and recommended next actions.
- Communicate complex technical findings clearly to engineers, technical leads, program stakeholders, and cross-functional teams.
- Help establish and improve triage processes, documentation standards, investigation workflows, and best practices.
- Provide technical guidance and leadership to other engineers involved in triage and issue investigation.
- Track issues through resolution and ensure engineering teams have the information necessary to reproduce and investigate problems efficiently.
- Significant experience investigating and troubleshooting complex software or autonomous vehicle systems.
- Strong experience analyzing logs, sensor data, video, metadata, or other large technical datasets.
- Experience with autonomous vehicles, ADAS, robotics, simulation, or similarly complex systems.
- Strong root cause analysis and technical problem-solving skills.
- Ability to distinguish between tooling, simulation, integration, and software behavior issues.
- Experience working with simulation environments and reproducing real-world issues in simulated scenarios.
- Strong understanding of structured bug triage, issue categorization, prioritization, and escalation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent technical documentation skills with the ability to clearly document complex investigations and findings.
- Ability to communicate effectively between multiple engineering teams and ensure issues are routed to the correct owners.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to independently drive investigations through completion.
- Experience with autonomous vehicle software stacks including perception, planning, controls, or related systems.
- Experience supporting on-road autonomous vehicle testing.
- Experience with simulation-based validation and regression testing.
- Experience creating or improving technical triage processes and operational workflows.
- Previous technical leadership, mentoring, or lead engineering experience.
The ideal candidate is a senior-level technical investigator who can own complex AV issues from initial detection through triage and engineering handoff. They are highly analytical, organized, and technically credible, but equally strong at communicating and documenting what they find.
This person should be comfortable operating across multiple engineering teams, bringing structure to ambiguous problems, and helping improve how Woven identifies, categorizes, communicates, and resolves autonomous vehicle issues.
