Senior Lead Cable Engineer
The Senior Lead Cable Engineer plays a pivotal role as a key technical leader on the Cable Engineering team. This team is responsible for the oversight of low voltage design and installation across all upcoming SHC construction as well as moves/adds/changes and the management of the cable infrastructure of across all SHC, Stanford Medicine Partners and Stanford Tri-Valley locations. The Senior Lead Cable Engineer plays a key leadership role in the oversight of telecommunications infrastructure, distribution rooms, outside plant and as well as the vendors, suppliers and distributors of structured cabling and related equipment.
The role is an exciting opportunity to be deeply involved in the strategic growth of SHC's facilities, the development and management of Telecommunications standards and the professional technical growth of the Cable Engineering team.
This is a Stanford Health Care job. The Senior Infrastructure Cabling Engineer is a technical resource responsible for SHC's outside and inside cabling/pathway infrastructure and telecommunication spaces design, standards, quality control, implementation, maintenance, and capacity planning. This includes but not limited to reviewing cabling infrastructure designs and scopes of work, providing technical support and monitoring telecommunications construction activities to ensure compliance with SHC-IT standards.
Excellent structured cabling/pathway, engineering/design and project management skills are required to balance both infrastructure integrity and project deliverables to ensure the cabling infrastructure supports technically advanced telecommunication services. Candidates must have proficient time management skills to work in a dynamic operations environment with varying priorities and schedule demands. Excellent communications skills are required for collaboration with technical and non-technical individuals at all levels inside and outside of Stanford Healthcare.
Additional responsibilities include overseeing the development of and operation of Move/Add/Change (MAC) activities throughout all SHC facilities. The Senior Infrastructure Cabling Engineer is responsible for mentoring and aiding ICE Engineers in their professional development as Subject Matter Experts.

- Collaborate with the network operations team, network architecture team, facilities team and planning, design & construction team in the development of infrastructure design and provide budgetary cost estimate plans for inside and outside cabling/pathways and spaces.
- Ensure that all infrastructure designs in compliance with both Industry and SHC standards within allocated budgets. Designs will include (but not limited to) telecommunications rooms and spaces, inside and outside cabling to new buildings, existing buildings and data centers.
- Oversee and maintain capacity planning, cable record management of outside and inside cabling both copper and fiber and outside pathways. Implement software tools and databases for tracking MAC activity and cabling inventory.
- Review and create documentation for infrastructure design and scopes of work to be used as bid documents and reference materials. Actively participate in design meetings for new buildings, data centers, and renovations and approve cabling scopes of work in these areas.
- Attend meetings with outside contractors, architects, engineering firms, and SHC support departments. Participate in job walks pre-construction and ongoing construction meetings on a regular basis.
- Develop and maintain preventative maintenance plans for the fiber and copper cabling outside infrastructure and update documentation (including standards) on a quarterly basis. Create new documentation and replace existing documentation, as needed.
- Collaborate and coordinate with technical operational staff with cabling activities including (but not limited to) the following telecommunications areas: moves, changes, additions, and repairs.
- Work closely with outside contractors to repair damaged cabling resulting in telecommunications services outages and develop solutions to minimize future outages.
- Schedule and coordinate outside contractors for preventative repairs to minimize telephone and network outages. Coordinate planned and unplanned infrastructure outages with SHC departments. Work closely with outside telecommunications providers for services to SHC.
- Provide written status reports to senior management on a regular basis. Develop communication plans for future and current infrastructure upgrades that may or may not affect telecommunications services.
- Develop and maintain a document repository to store all facility design and construction drawings/specifications, test results and warranty information.
- Oversee and coordinating contractor activities, providing quality assurance and inspections for SHC projects requiring cabling performed by outside contractors, vendors, and/or SHC departments.
