Relief Licensed Clinical Social Worker or Social Work Clinician Inpatient Float

Job Summary

Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW) and Social Work Clinicians (SWC) deliver comprehensive psychosocial services to patients and families within a hospital setting, ensuring culturally sensitive care, crisis intervention, and coordination of community resources.

• Conduct psychosocial assessment of patients/families upon admission, annually, or as clinically indicated.
• Develop and implement patient/family psychosocial treatment plans in collaboration with interdisciplinary health care teams.
• Provide written and oral reports, hand‑offs and progress notes.
• Manage independent caseloads with varying clinical acuity, including case finding and participation in interdisciplinary rounds.
• Offer supportive counseling, grief counseling, crisis intervention, psychoeducation and coping strategies.
• Assist patients and families in transitions from youth to adult services.
• Participate in quality assurance and community improvement, and contribute to policy development related to social work services.

• Provide individual/group clinical supervision to MSWs and student interns as required.
• Prepare and maintain electronic medical records in accordance with department policies.

• Prepare and maintain electronic medical records and provide written and oral reports.

• Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) – Master’s degree in Social Work from a CSWE‑accredited program, two (2) years of progressively responsible experience, and a valid LCSW license issued by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.
• Social Work Clinician (SWC) – Master’s degree in Social Work from a CSWE‑accredited program or equivalent; if from a non‑accredited program, a certificate verifying registration as an Associate Clinical Social Worker issued by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.

• Apply theories, principles and practices of medical social work in a hospital setting.
• Assess needs using a data‑based approach and manage caseloads with confidentiality and emergency protocols.
• Utilize effective assessment, interviewing and counseling techniques.
• Understand hospital resources to facilitate client services.
• Demonstrate cultural sensitivity to the patient population.
• Knowledge of child development and family dynamics.

Positions may be occupied at either of the three grade levels, depending on qualifications, and promotion is possible upon meeting the minimum requirements and receiving management recommendation.

Compensation is based on role level and qualifications. Typical ranges:
SWC $53.32 to $59.67 per hour;
LCSW $55.94 to $62.60 per hour.
