The Doerr School of Sustainability Web and Application Services team sits within the Dean’s office and provides oversight and advice to all staff, faculty and students in support of their website needs. The demand for Web Administration services is growing and the department is seeking to expand its existing team. This team oversees the planning, maintenance, and accessibility of content on all school websites to ensure the layout, positioning, navigation, and look and feel of content is consistent across the organization.
Reporting to the Director of Web and Application Services, the department is seeking a full-time Web Administrator with strong consultative skills and technical expertise to independently deliver high quality service and excellent support to the School.
Responsibilities- Work with the Director of Web & Application Services to develop short- and long‑range strategies for SDSS (Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability) websites. Draft strategic plans that incorporate new website development, existing website maintenance, and existing website redevelopment. Ensure all plans address security, standards, and SDSS‑wide cohesiveness.
- Independently consult with and advise faculty, stakeholders, and web authors within the school to build and maintain websites using either the Stanford Sites platform or our own custom platform. Using technical expertise, make recommendations and decisions on content and layout that balance local department business goals with accepted website best practices.
- Be accountable for and ensure the ongoing quality of all existing websites.
- Train new and existing web authors on our website platforms. Develop strategies to keep them updated with any new features, including refresher training, distribution of best practices, recurring newsletters, recurring Zoom office hours, etc.
- Assess the UX of new pages and ensure new pages are user friendly and link properly with existing pages and that people can navigate easily and be linked seamlessly with other relevant Stanford web pages.
- Independently blueprint and build the underlying web site platform(s) for new and migrating websites; ensure ease of access and workflow, permissions, roles, etc. to meet client needs.
- Independently diagnose and resolve issues that arise with the performance of the web site; ensure optimization of user experience. Work may include reformatting text, assuring hyperlink integrity, transferring and translating files, and posting of new material to the page. May maintain web site content and information flow.
- Create and implement effective end user experience which may include design, web content, and mobile computing experience.
- Identify and track relevant website metrics and statistics that will enable website customization and optimization. Develop individual reports that analyze each website across these metrics. Ensure web authors have the technical knowledge to effectively utilize the reports.
- Find, diagnose, and fix content problems, including broken links, typographical errors, and formatting inconsistencies.
