Senior Network Engineer

We are looking for a Senior Network Engineer to take ownership of key areas of MongoDB's global network infrastructure. You'll design, deploy, and troubleshoot network and VPN solutions, including Palo Alto Prisma Access at global scale, partner with Info Sec to harden network security, and mentor engineers across the team. This role combines deep hands-on networking expertise with the judgment to prioritize and communicate risk and strategy to stakeholders.

• Own the design, deployment, and operation of MongoDB's global network infrastructure Cisco Meraki, including routers, switches, firewalls,access points and IOT sensors
• Lead the rollout and ongoing management of Palo Alto Prisma Access as MongoDB's SASE , in partnership with Info Sec
• Administer and evolve MongoDB's network authentication stack, including RADIUS implementations (EAP-TLS, PAP, Rad Sec and Mac Authentication), ensuring secure and reliable network access
• Partner with Info Sec to implement and continuously improve network security controls, including VLAN configuration, firewall rules, DNS, DHCP, and IDS/IPS solutions
• Design and deploy network infrastructure for new and existing global office sites, partnering with Real Estate, workplace, AV, and Physical Security teams
• Serve as a senior technical escalation point (L3) for complex network issues across the organization
• Build automation to reduce manual network operations work and improve reliability and observability
• Act as a technical advisor for MongoDB's relationships with ISPs, hardware, low voltage cabling and other network vendors
• Mentor engineers across the team and contribute to a culture of technical excellence and self-service

• Ensure MongoDB's global network infrastructure and VPN remain fault tolerant, reliable, secure, and scalable as the company grows
• Reduce risk and technical debt across network, security and remote access solutions
• Communicate network strategy, risk, and incidents clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Uphold strong engineering practices across network documentation, automation, and change management
• Balance long-term network architecture work with day-to-day operational support
• Ability to use iterative designs to PoC and deploy new network solution based on company problems

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
• 6+ years of experience in network or systems engineering, with a strong grasp of networking fundamentals (OSI model, routing, switching, IP subnetting, cabling, wireless)
• Proven experience designing, deploying, and troubleshooting high availability network infrastructure at global scale, including routers, switches, firewalls, access points and IOT sensors in high-availability configurations
• Hands-on experience with network dashboards and platforms such as Cisco Meraki and HPE Aruba
• Experience implementing and managing VPN and secure access solutions such as Palo Alto Prisma Access, Cloudfare IPSEC L2TP and Cisco secure client / any connect
• Experience with network authentication technologies such as Fox Pass, LDAP, and Okta (SAML)
• Solid understanding of enterprise network design and cloud networking best practices (High availability, VLAN, DHCP, DNS, IP subnetting, firewall rules)
• Experience partnering with Info Sec, Physical Security, and Workplace teams on cross-functional network initiatives
• Scripting skills for network automation using infrastructure as code
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical topics to a wide range of audiences
• Experience with network documentation such as rack elevation, patching matrices and network topologies at a layer 2 and layer 3 level
• There will be requirements from time to time to work across multiple time zones as required by the business, including travel

• CCNA, CCNP, Meraki Solutions specialist, or equivalent networking certification
• Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and hybrid network architectures
• Experience mentoring other network or systems engineers
• Familiarity with MDM and endpoint tools such as JAMF and Workspace ONE (Air Watch)
• Experience working directly with ISPs and external vendors to resolve complex connectivity issues

• In 3 months, you will:
  Be fully onboarded with a thorough understanding of MongoDB's network infrastructure and policies, have completed a review of the existing environment, and be providing effective L3 support
