Job Summary – Quality and Practice Advisor (QPA) are Registered Nurses who utilize evidence‑informed practice to facilitate and lead improvements in patient care and the work environment. The QPA evaluates data trends, develops clinical practice changes grounded in evidence‑based practice, and consults to nursing staff and inter‑professional teams. Responsibilities include nursing leadership, representing clinical practice in a subspecialty area, educating team members, facilitating evidence‑based practice, and professional development.
EssentialFunctions
Employees must abide by all Joint Commission requirements, including sensitivity to cultural diversity, patient rights, safety, team work, ongoing education, and the hospital’s policies and procedures. They must also perform the following:
- Establish and monitor care standards and make recommendations for changes in clinical practice based on professional standards and evidence.
- Demonstrate proficient understanding of daily patient care and provide collaboration, direction, and instruction to staff in applying the nursing process.
- Maintain and teach specialized knowledge and skills necessary for techniques and routines in the specialty service area.
- Consult within nursing services and inter‑professional teams in planning, development, execution, and evaluation of care delivery to improve quality outcomes.
- Understand quality improvement cycles and change management.
- Participate in the hospital’s quality improvement program and monitor quality and safety indicators.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing; proof of enrollment in an accredited Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) program (preferred).
- Experience: Three (3) years of progressively responsible and directly related nursing work experience.
- License/Certification: CA Registered Nurse (RN); BLS for healthcare providers;
Advanced life support for area of specialty (NRP/PALS/ACLS). - Must have a certification in their field of specialty.
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
- Ability to conduct research, document results, draw conclusions, and make recommendations.
- Ability to develop and perform patient assessment and plan of care.
- Ability to identify competency‑based education needs and implement educational programs for staff.
- Ability to perform patient assessment and triage.
- Ability to provide consultation to physicians, nurses, and other health care providers.
- Knowledge of advanced clinical practice education, consultation, research, and administration.
- Knowledge of clinical operations, workflow and procedures.
- Knowledge of customer and personal service principles and practices.
- Knowledge of nursing science, especially in the applicable specialty area.
- Advanced nursing skills in area of specialty.

Additional InformationPay Range:
Minimum to mid‑point (hourly) $79.03 to $98.79.
